The Writer's Retreat Ground Floor Apartment

The writers retreat is beautifully decorated, Georgian home tranformed into a luxurious apartment. The retreat is situated in Holt with many shops and close to local attractions which makes it a good base to explore North Norfolk. The hot tub is a lovely addition and very private. The dog had a lovely garden to explore with a field to play in, both secure. Thoroughly recommend The writers retreat.

Great for us as a family of 3 + dog. On arrival we called the host (Evgueni) as we weren't sure if we'd found the right place; he answered straight away; was super helpful and friendly. Evgueni was there to greet us as we arrived in their huge private car park. He gave us a quick and helpful (and unintrusive!) tour of the facilities and a little history about the house and its decor, which was a lovely touch as it's a stunning building packed with history! If you book the ground floor of this house, you are the only ones staying there, but only have access to the ground floor, the upstairs is closed off with a gate. The location was ideal; a stones throw from a Budgens supermarket, a 1-2 minute walk from central Holt which was packed with independent shops, cafes and restaurants (most were dog friendly throughout!) In Holt itself we highly recommend The Feathers restaurant, The Black Apollo coffee shop, the street market on the first Sunday of the month and the many quirky independent shops (all dog friendly). Cromer 20 mins drive away, Sheringham 30 mins. The photos do not do the astonishingly beautiful and vast lawn area justice and there's great access through a little gate to the private outdoor trampoline and climbing frame. We forgot to let the hosts know we hoped to use the hot tub, so to our excitement Evgueni had put it on anyway! We found the accommodation beautifully warm throughout.The TV in the lounge had great access to streaming services. Wi-fi was great, free and easily accessible. The kitchen had everything we needed and we loved the touch of little biscuits and a bottle of fizz on arrival. We felt very safe and private throughout our stay.

For us, nothing, it was great! This host and accommodation definitely met our expectations. He couldn't be more available by phone or accommodating, so if you did need anything or have any queries, I strongly recommend you reach our to him, as we had every confidence he'd rectify any issues (but we didn't have any!). I can imagine the small bathroom that's accessible through the kitchen may put some people off, but for us we just needed a clean bathroom with a shower and it met our needs. Some people may also mistake the bed for being a 'pull-out' - I can assure you it's more comfortable and clean than most well-known Hotel beds! Our little one was perfectly comfortable in his spare bed too and we all had plenty of room. The only real downside for us was we only booked 2 nights, but we'll be returning for sure!

A beautiful property full of original features , friendly hosts and fabulous location

Nothing but shower room didn’t quite come up to standard of the rest of the apartment, however wouldn’t stop us booking again .

Beautiful old property with very large garden in the centre of Holt. We were welcomed by the lovely owners, which was nice. The apartment is the downstairs of a 4 bedroomed semi-detached house. (The other half is lived in by the owners) It is very large with a bedroom/dining room, sitting room, and kitchen, with a very small toilet/shower room at the back of the property. There is plenty of free carparking in front of the property. On the whole, we loved staying there as it was very convenient for exploring the little town with its super independent shops and cafes. Also great for discovering Norfolks north coast. However, we didn't like that the main bed was a sofa-bed, the main sofa was one of those you push together and it kept coming apart, the bathroom was a bit small and away from the bedroom, and the property was very cold even with the heating on. Unfortunately, one of the windows in the kitchen doesn't close properly, so that could have added to the cold temperature. We would go back to this property, but maybe when the weather is a bit warmer. Overall, it was a good stay.

The location of the apartment is excellent; quick walk into Holt. It was a lovely and spacious apartment within the beautiful period house. It was lovely to have such a large garden and our 6 month year old puppy really loved this. Having a hot tub was great, a real bonus. The rooms were very spacious, and the apartment is full of character.

Absolutely nothing

Location was superb, a very short walk to the town centre. The helpful hosts live next door so you can easily ask anything. There was plenty of parking. The apartment is extremely spacious and beautifully furnished. There's everything you need. The hot tub was an absolute bonus. I'd stay in this accommodation again.

The main bedroom was a little on the cool side due to fewer radiators than in the living room. 45 Norwich Road and the flat weren't very well signposted.

The property is beautiful, full of character and charm….. It may appear to be in a fairly busy location but inside its walls it’s so quiet you cannot hear anything inc your neighbours the owners….. It is completely private out the back where the hot tub is, so there’s no worries about being overlooked for those that are self conscious! And what a hot tub!!! It’s a six seater hot tub!! Not a lazy spa but a real top of the line hot tub!!! The owners filled it for our arrival and set it to 40 degrees so it was like stepping into a hot bath!! Absolutely awesome is all I can say!!! Then you can go back into the living room where if you’ve a mind to you can have a fire going in the hearth (as well as full central heating! ) to warm up after your hot tub - we went end of Nov 24 and it was a bit on the chilly side when getting out!! But once inside by the open fire it was toasty!!! lol The kitchen is huge and well equipped so if like us you enjoy cooking then everything is there, plus a massive American style fridge freezer to put all your goodies bought in Budgens that’s just 2 mins from the property !!! The bedroom again is huge with a very comfy bed another fire place - we didn’t use this one as to be honest it was nice to have a cooler room to sleep in!!! The only thing I’d say was missing from this room was a mirror but we just borrowed the one from the bathroom area……. The garden is huge but we didn’t go exploring as it was wet and cold but I can imagine in summer it is lovely……. There are pubs and places to eat within a few paces of the property and it’s only about 15 mins to the coast!…….. We wanted somewhere we didn’t need to leave during the day unless we wanted to and we didn’t….. it’s got a smart tv, the hot tub, plenty of space and comfy seating etc etc - I’d move in tomorrow!! lol so I’d certainly recommend it for a romantic weekend or a base for a longer holiday!!….. As for your hosts…. Your hostess was warm and friendly ….. Nothing was too much trouble…..

There was nothing to dislike………. It’s awesome from the accommodation to the grounds and hot tub!! I’d like to suggest you have a guest book for people to comment in and sign - we would love to have filled a page in for you esp as we were only your 4th set of guests…….. and also the mirror for the bedroom and a little bin - it was no trouble for me to take face wipes and contact lens packets to the kitchen but some guests may not be so good with that, so save yourself some mess and have a couple of small bins - bathroom and bedroom - just a suggestion not a criticism xx
