The Blyde Canyon House

Excellent location. Tranquil setting, natural backdrop with the river practically at your doorstep.

A 4x4/SUV is best for final 1.1km to the house. A sedan takes a bit of punishment.

Everything was perfect! Beautiful pool. Amazing gardens and loved the constant flow of the river.

Loved the layout of the accommodation. Very comfortable bed. The housekeeper an added bonus. Wi-fi available and smart TV. Very well furnished and outside area exceptional. One can walk to the river from the property to look at the river. Sadly the banks had washed away during thw recent floods. It is a beautiful nature reserve. Take the blyde river canyon dam boat trip. Well worth it.

I found the kitchen poorly equipped compared to the rest of the house. Bare minimum supplied. There is a washing machine and a great washing line but pegs old and broken. Knives are blunt and bare minimum serving dishes and pots and pans. There were only 2 of us. I would not like to prepare a meal here for a full house of 6. Salt and pepper supplied but no other essentials apart from a few sachets in the bedroom. The cottage is far from any shops. A message to guests emphasizing that they need to bring everything themselves as the cottage is a true self catering rental. The wi-fi is not great as intermittent reception in this area.

I loved everything about the place, the host was very communicative, gave detailed information, directions etc. The house is beautiful, bed very comfortable, good pressure in the showers, the lounge was a haven. Quite relaxing and the patio is overlooking the Motlatse river and the pool. Beautiful house with modern amenities. I just found my new little hideaway from the hustle and bustle of the city. Time stops when you are in the Canyon House.

A lovely house in the riverine bush along the banks of the Blyde river. It has an interesting design consisting of two parallel "wings". The one wing is the open-plan kitchen/dining room/lounge with a lovely deck overlooking the pool. Ideal for outdoor dining. The other wing consists of three bedrooms all with individual entrances. The photos do not do it justice. The house had all we needed to self cater - including a braai area under the trees. Spotlessly clean. Easy access to the Blydepoort dam and the boat rides (20 min by car).

Instructions for getting from the tarred road to the house could be improved. We missed the first turn, but still got there in the end.
