Vacation house near downtown DC Free Parking

The beds were comfortable. The front porch was nice. The bathroom was clean and looked newly remodeled. The cost was great for a two-bedroom for several nights.

Sorry, this is a long one! When I booked our June stay in Jan, I noticed the address on Booking is actually 2 addresses. I messaged the owner to confirm the location & was told the 19th St NE location. However, when I got the check-in info the day before check-in, it listed a different address on South Dakota NE, 2.5 miles further away from downtown DC. When I asked about the switch, I was told that I was upgraded to a larger place in a nicer neighborhood. But, as I noted to the owner, he can't upgrade me because he doesn't know what I believe to be an upgrade. For instance, we had already planned out dinners and travel based on the original location. We were in a tough situation, as I had booked this nearly 6 months ago and there were now few options available. Not knowing what to do, we decided to check out the new address. It's on a very busy and loud street. The photos in the listing are not of the property. The back door enters directly into the second bedroom. The kitchen is barely stocked & the kitchen faucet is broken. It's not the worst place I've ever stayed, but I have no way of knowing if it is an "upgrade." I can only say that I doubt it. We did call Booking to see what could be done about the bait and switch. Because we entered the property, they could not help us. I also asked to see the original location, but the owner simply shared the address & told us to let him know if we preferred the neighborhood, which was not what I had asked; I was hoping to actually see inside the property. We decided it was not worth it to pursue a discount or refund from the owner. So that is not my motivation here. We also did not raise any issues we had with the location, including the broken sink, because we'd accepted our fate.

It was a very nice property inside and out, and the owners were nice and offered help for anything if needed.

Did not like the area it was in, was more so my fault for not looking further into the property but turned out to be okay.

Be aware that there are 2 ads on Booking.com for this owner. The one ad I saw shows pictures from their 1 best location, the "townhouse". The apartment we were put in looked nothing like that townhouse. Additionally, before I booked I asked if there were stairs because my mother has difficulty with them. They told me there were no stairs. When we arrived we found there were 2 flights of narrow stairs to get to our apartment. When I messaged the owner they said the cleaners mixed up and gave our rental to someone else. They said we could either cancel and go somewhere else (at 6:00 at night in DC. For 4 nights. Right...) or change on the last night to the one we actually rented (absolutely unhelpful and unrealistic). So we stayed. The cramped house was a mismash of DIY, lacked basic supplies and was very dirty. It hasn't been cleaned more than a broom and a surface wiping in years. When I mentioned this to the owner at the end of our stay they said if I'd told them sooner they would've cleaned it. I shouldn't have to ask for my rental to be cleaned AFTER we're in it, especially when they charge a $90 cleaning fee. There was mouse droppings in cabinets and on boxspring covers; filthy blinds and ceiling fans; splatters on walls; hair on sheets and in drawers; a bathroom door with no latch; pools of water on dishes in the cupboard; terrible water pressure; super loud, busy neighborhood; nearly impossible parking to get in and out of on such a busy street; and more. When I told the owner all this their response was "you stayed" and denied my request for half off and no cleaning fee. Instead they refunded me only $200 of the $648, but only if I promised to not write a review. Oops. You'll see if you read any of the other negative reviews on the second listing, the owner simply denies any of it is true. I'm sure the one house is nice. The tiny apartment is not.

It was a very nice house to stay in. Clean and comfortable. Very near and convienent to use the public transportation to down town.

Apartment was clean and cozy. Beds were comfortable and everything was clean. Basic supplies were provided. Nice shower, would have loved to soak but drain plug didn't work. Short uber rides to where we wanted to go for the most part. Apartment was good to come back to after a busy day, just didn't want to venture out after dark.

The neighborhood is a mix of new and old. Lots of rowdy neighbors at night. Lost a lot of sleep due to their shenanigans. Furniture in living room had a lot of stains and apartment smelled old and musty. Front door was tricky to lock. Site did not mention stairs. Would have been good to know.

Excellent house, great location, clean and comfortable for a small family. Very near to bus stop and overall close to the downtown.

The property is very close to all Washington DC activities for monuments, historic things. The owner was quick to reply, and kept in contact whenever I had a question… My only downside would’ve been the type parking spot that was difficult to manage in and out if two people at cars in it. Otherwise, I would recommend this place for a couple or a small pair of friends who want to visit in D.C.
