The Rowanberry Suite at Rowan Cottage

It was very clean and cozy and Ruth went the extra mile to add little things to feel welcome and comfortable

Cute cottage with a large window overlooking the ocean bay and mountainous distant shore. Stunning scenery. Lots of different birds call in the morning. The hostess had laid out a large basket, a hamper, of tea, coffee, cookies, cereal, jams and Nutella with milk, butter and yogurt in the refrigerator. Charming host, happy to help including having someone pick u p additional groceries.

The drive there involved 35 miles of a one-lane road, not much wider than the car. You must be vigilant for oncoming cars and find a pullout place to let the other car pass you. Absolutely no shoulders. It takes a good hour to travel and is not relaxing. This is not a jumping-off place to explore Skye. It was fine for one day out, including an early dinner and then back again. The jaw-dropping scenery makes the slow travel all the more enjoyable. The sheep with lambs and Highland cattle stepping out onto the road are a joy to behold.

The location is wonderfully remote with a view over the loch and towards the mainland (dawn views were spectacular). We loved seeing a herd of deer from the dining table! Ruth is a friendly, helpful host who was brought up in the local area and had a wealth of interesting stories to share. The mezzanine bedroom was very cute and comfortable.

The kitchenette is well equipped with fridge, microwave and toaster, if a bit short on space. Perhaps a little side table/chopping block for food preparation would help?

Peaceful and clean. There is everything we need to make a wonderful stay.

The road to the hotel is rather treacherous and difficult to drive at time.

Beautifully equipped and furnished. Warm and comfortable. Stunning views. Great location. Wonderful host. Didn't expect the breakfast pack, which was a lovely addition, thank you Ruth. Would love to stay again as its a great base for exploring the area and the Cuillin. Ate dinner on one of our evenings at the Elgol Bistro. Highly recommended but book ahead to avoid disappointment!

Folk need to be aware there is no hob or oven, just a microwave, taster, kettle etc. This is more than enough if you menu plan accordingly, and posed no problems for us in cooking meals - amazing what you can cook microwave! The location is a 2 mile walk into Elgol itself, and 2.5 miles to the Bistro (less if you take the footpath shortcut). The road is not busy, however, and it was an enjoyable walk.

The attention to detail was impressive. Gift basket of essential foods, a selection of dvds and an electric blanket and heater. Didn't need to ask for a single thing because she had thought of it all. Place was immaculate too, cleanest I have ever stayed in. 10/10. Plus Ruth sends detailed instructions before you leave so you know you are going the right way.

If I had to say 1 downside was that the location is very remote so if you want to go to the popular locations you will need to drive 45mins+ but the peace and quiet out there makes it worth it.

Beautiful place, really nice, clean, comfy, and even had a little package of food when we arrived. Definitely recommend
