Dmytri's Original La Fonda Restaurant & Hotel

The location and views are great. People are always friendly.

We know La Fonda for years and while a few renovations are being made, it’s not our ideal place to stay. I booked a specific room based on the picture and we got a different room, which was very disappointing and deceiving. Our room was freezing-luckily I always bring extra blankets and pillows when we come here. We complained the next day and were able to get the original room I booked. It’s just not good service to post a picture of a room you select and then get a completely different one. The wall light switches were visibly dirty with finger prints, I had to wipe them all down with disinfectant wipes. Hoping the new owners pay attention to small things like this and update the live music venue (always the same songs). We come every month and stay at specific Airbnb’s. We wouldn’t mind staying here and recommending to our friends if small tweaks were made. Glad the price is low, but could get more from overnight stays with some inexpensive tweaks.

Amazing ocean view and the sounds of the waves crashing all night. Room included a fireplace and access to free wood. Short walk to the beach and attached restaurant.

The door to the room felt a bit flimsy and easy to open from the outside if someone wanted to.

Dinner is to die for...ate there both nights of our stay. The lobster (langosto) dinner is amazing...two tails split in half...no tools required! Came with salad, homemede bean soup, rice and beans, and tortilla chips , of course. Left completely stuffed. Each room is unique and rustic...most have ocean views. Amazing sunsets and saw dolphins playing in the waves. Clean, sandy beach. A great place to relax and enjoy! Take a day trip to Ensenada for touristy stuff, or La Bufadora, a naturally formed blowhole by the sea, both less than an hour away.

Not all rooms have WiFi. If this is important for your stay, let them know. Cell service, at least for T-Mobile users is excellent in the area. Not a criticism of the facility, but crossing the US-Mexican border is mayhem in both directions, and can take hours. Google this topic and learn from the experiences of others.

The view was great

It sounded like someone was trying to get into our room at night. We put a chair in front of the door so no one could get it. We left the next morning and forfeited the remainder of the stay. The guard with 2 guns was a bad sign. How does he even have guns, they are illegal in Mexico?

I Loved the ocean view from the balcony and the stairs that lead to the beach. The hotel restaurant was amazing with large windows to showcase the ocean and staff that serve your food in style. There is also a band that plays music on the weekends with a buffet Sunday morning. The strawberry margaritas, lobster, burgers, and steak were some of the best that I had, their portion were large and cooked professionally. The room was clean and cozy with a fresh vide and beautiful views. La Fonda has remarkably friendly staff and is surrounded by plenty of fun activities and locations with a reasonable short and scenic drive to Ensenada and other vacation locations along the north baja coast. Overall Dmytri's Original La Fonda Restaurant will give you a vacation far better than you would have expected, a true gem that is a great value for your money and excellent baja style.

Some words of caution, the cleaning staff may provide cleaning services and enter your room while you are away. The stairs to the beach can be a little risky to use. And the neighbor might at first seem unpleasant but it is very welcoming and safe.
