The Lakehouse Rooms at The Waterhead Inn, Ambleside

Location near lake

Towel rail in room permanently on , unable to turn off despite several trips to reception, maintenance unable to turn it off, was 29 degrees heat wave outside , room was unbearable, no other rooms available, manager helpful but nothing she could do. I have migraines there was no way I could even spend 5 minutes in that room never mind sleep, this ruined my first day, I found another hotel myself, and the manager agreed a refund, she went into the room and understood just how hot it was. Don’t like self serve breakfast, no personal touch and no separate reception , you have to wait for a member of bar staff to be free to address book in or any issues . Would not recommend

I liked everything about the room. It was extremely clean, had plenty of space and was value for money. We would definitely visit again..

The room was nicely decorated and had enough amenities. The bed was adequate and comfortable

I did not realise that the rooms were on the other side of the road on top of a hill not only do you have to negotiate climbing up the steep hill path you also had to climb the stairs if the room was on the upper floor like mine! the first day breakfast was ok but boy!! I know they cook with oil and grease but the food was very greasy. I ate the scrambled eggs as that did not have any oil or grease in the recipe. On the second day the dining room was in utter meltdown I tried to start my day with an orange juice but the dispensers were empty, the lady came with cartons of juice to fill up, only to find there were no glasses available then soon rectified!! I then wanted a cup of tea only to find no cups available this I pointed out to a staff member. at the hot breakfast there was no scrambled eggs. all the rest looked greasy and oily again. My wife went to get a side plate for toast only to find the plates were covered in oil and grease not a thin smear of grease one plate had a visible yellowing smear of grease, these were handed back to a service member. Not a memory I want to relish of my time in the Lake District.

Very steep hill to hotel. Not good for me personally, as I am older. Took me 2 days to find extractor fan switch - my fault.

Beautiful lakeside setting. Room was well-decorated, clean and had good facilities.

A fridge would’ve been useful but other than that everything was perfect.
