The Lakehouse Rooms at The Waterhead Inn, Ambleside

Amazing location. Literally the best point you can ever go to for Ambleside. Everything is on the doorstep and the road to the lake is serviced by a bus from the station that takes you directly there from the station. Welcoming staff, restaurant was amazing and the room really felt like it was ours while we were there. Definitely felt looked after and a nice refuge after a few solid walks.

Going through booking.com doesnt confer the same level of service as booking directly. We booked for a twin and got a double. Booking.com sent instructions for twin OR double. Property made the decision off that. They showed me the screenshots. They still sorted us a double room, on May Bank Holiday!!!

The facilities are quite large and located very centrally. Breakfast was great, and the pub had great food. Just be aware that there are two separate menus depending on whether or not you made a reservation or just walked in.

The parking requires decent precision, especially if you have a larger car. This is for the upper facilities. The lower pub area has limited parking.

Lack of choice of draught beers, there was no Madrid on arrival, ran out of staropraman and another draught lager which only left coors!

Perfect views of Lake Windermere and only a short walk into Ambleside.

Dinning very poor. The restaurant was not busy and we waited over an hour for our fish and chip dinner to arrive, not acceptable! House Maid Service appalling. After returning to our room after a very busy day it appeared that nothing had been done apart from replenishing the biscuits. Bed hadn't been made and our dirty cups from a tea and coffee that morning were still there and had not been replaced with clean ones, totally unacceptable.

Hotel was well positioned. We stayed in the Lakehouse Superior room. Very comfortable. Staff were all very friendly and accommodating.

The parking is not guaranteed, so caused us some angst prior to arriving as Booking . Com had said there was parking. In the end we did get Parked ok by booking and paying extra for early arrival. The house keepers had not been told about early arrival so we could park, but not get into our room at 1pm. As it happened we chose to have lunch first so it was ok in the end. We were told half way through our meal that we could go to our room. Crossing the busy road from the gateway of the Lakehouse garden was tricky! Also it was good that we didn’t meet anyone on the drive as we couldn’t have reversed back onto a main road and the space outside the house was tricky to manoeuvre in. Other guests also discussed this with us. Room was great but no ledge in the bathroom apart from the top of the toilet! So nowhere to put toiletries, sink area was small so couldn’t leave them there. Also no where to hang towels - only one hook on the back of the door.
