The grandest teak & mahogany room you can imagine, in a really interestingly designed hotel which feels more like an extended-family's home! What a surprise, extraordinary craftsmanship, and, as in so much of Sri Lanka, absolutely lovely staff, food, and such a helpful manager too. It's a secluded little oasis; use the pool, as the sea shore is dangerously steeply shelving - just enjoy the sight of the fishermen & women coordinating their net-hauling. Come here for solitude and lovely in-house hospitality!

Our fault that we didn't twig that it's a 1200 rupee, 25 minute tuktuk into the nearest town of Chilaw, which is not the appetising sea-side town our UK Sri Lankan friends thought it would be! It's a semi-industrial, fishing-port cum railway node; do not be taken in by the hilarious hippy-review extolling it's virtues through rose-tinted specs, and instead enjoy your hotel's lovely food and quiet!
