Home in Newland

This was perfect for us to be near family in the area and celebrate the holidays. We had space to be together and enjoy meals and games.

I think we were there on literally the coldest days of the year. It took us a minute to figure out the thermostat, but the host has plenty of space heaters so we got everything toasty.

The house itself was roomy and mostly clean. It was nice having free WiFi.

The most significant blight on our stay was our experience with the host. Although stated check in time is 3:00 pm, and I had confirmed with him our arrival time a few hours before arriving at 7:30 pm, he did not have the door code for me when we arrived. Standard service would be to send it to me at 3:00 pm— I know from experience in this industry. I messaged him when we arrived, waited a bit, then called the number he provided, and received no reply to the message or call. When I called a second time, the call went straight to voicemail, and so did subsequent calls. I had to call Booking.com customer service, who then reached out to the host, and finally he sent the code with no apology. We were left waiting for quite awhile and had to go to Ingles to use the restroom. It’s lucky we didn’t have plans that night. We also had something weird happen the following day where I received a notice that he had cancelled our stay for no provided reason. I had to call Booking.com again, and they advised us to stay. Additionally, we found dead German roaches under the kitchen sink, which is concerning given the nature of German roach infestations. Underneath the beds were very filthy, including dead bugs.

I love that it was nice and warm when we arrived and that a light was on to welcome us. The home was plenty spacious and my kids loved that there were so many tvs available so they could watch different things.

If I had to pick something to improve then it would be the mattresses or at least the one downstairs. It wasn’t the worst I’ve slept on, but it did leave a lot to be desired over time.
