The Oil Mill Guesthouse

Lovely staff! Janine at reception was so helpful and friendly, and so was Chase, the lady who cleaned the rooms. The room has everything you would need for a short stay. They are currently working on the property, so there was some banging which is to be expected when doing upgrades and reno. I would, however, keep the doggy indoors at night. He woke us up with barking in the early hours of the morning.

The room was cool even on a hot day, even without a fan or aircon. The room was spacious and the beds were comfortable individually (ours was two beds pushed together, so the only uncomfortable aspect was the ridge between them which you could feel). The breakfast was also tasty. The stay is good value for money overall.

While no one was rude, it felt like the guesthouse aspect of the venue was an afterthought to the restaurant and there wasn't an emphasis placed on hospitality. When checking in there seemed to be confusion as to which room we were in and if it was ready for us. The signal was limited and although there seemed to be wifi there was nothing we could find on the info sheets in the room about a password. There was no communication when we checked in about the included breakfast (what time it's served from and until and where to be, etc). There was a random towel suspended from the ceiling that seemed to be covering up something coming out of the roof. There was also a door in our room that seemed to lead to the adjoined building and we could hear people moving around and playing music in the morning. There was also a little window that had no curtain but could see into the room, so if you were moving from the shower to the room someone could see in and there was no way to cover it. This was just our experience for our one-night stayover. All in all, none of these things are detrimental, but it's the little details, particularly when it comes to communication and guest management, that take a stay from being passable to pleasant. Based on the above, we personally wouldn't go out of our way to stay here again, but for the price that you're paying you are getting a fair, safe, and comfortable stay. Not incredible, but reasonable for a short stay.

The staff were friendly and helpful. They also assist us with a braai facility. The breakfast was delicious too.
