The Oil Mill Guesthouse

The bed was comfy but not as expected. Swellendam is a beautiful town so I would like to encourage management to align the staff and especially the walk ways (not safe to walk on) with the beauty of this friendly culture and its environment. .

The front office lady did not check my previous messages confirming payment one week and a few days prior to arrival. She was confused with our booking thinking my mom and I share a bedroom together but it was booked for my mom and dad and then she realized I actually booked two chalets instead of one. We were not shown how the TV/"DSTV" operated. She was confused where the towels were but entering the room it was layed out on the bed (right infront of her). The white cushion linen was very dirty displaying black oil marks. The lighting and switches in the rooms and bathrooms need serious attention. No lights are installed for parking/arrival parking area within the facility and for the walk ways. It is extremely dangerous to walk at night. The water pressure and shower nozles are not up to standard. Staff needs serious customer service attention and proper training. Overall, staff training (please give serious attention) and guest accomodation requirements need to adjust to the TGCSA standards of South Africa. We were clearly told that they close at 5pm! And no alternative numbers or contact details for night staff or emergencies.

The bed

The smell upon entering the cottage - like it had been closed up for a while. Paid for breakfast but did not receive said breakfast. The lack of decent cutlery. It was not what I had booked (a deluxe cottage but got the standard twin room). No bathrobe as mentioned on booking.com. Photos on Booking.com for the cottage I stayed in, are NOT as per what the cottage looks like.

Had a lovely stay thank you, staff very helpful and friendly staff.

If I can perhaps just mention 1 thing, we stayed in the Soya room - have a look at the mattresses.
