Hotel Royal New Orleans

Interesting history and close to everything!

Room was not able to gain entry for 30 minutes (there’s a trick to it but only the maintenance man knew), room wasn’t cleaned properly and staff didn’t seem to care. Housekeeping also went into our room when do not disturb sign was on door, even after we specifically told them not to come in.

I really loved the location of this hotel: being on the Northeast end of the French Quarter, it's just a couple of short blocks to the French Market, where I enjoyed Cafe du Monde's famous beignets and coffee and the shops there. While in my room on a Saturday night at the end of March, I heard loud music outside, so I looked down from my balcony to see a parade going down the street below--an unexpected delight! My room was big, having a room for the bed and another adjacent "sitting room" that had an old fireplace (not usuable). The bed was VERY comfortable and I slept like a baby there. The staff was very friendly and helpful, which made the stay more enjoyable.

When I booked this, I was not aware there was no elevator and they put me in a room on the 3rd floor! Being an old hotel that had expanded into the building next door and the one next to it over time, the trip to and from my room from the main entrance was convoluted, and the floor in the "sitting area" of my room was slanted. The french doors to the balcony were sticky and the balcony looked sketchy. While it had a table, there were no chairs on it. It was cold and rainy during my stay, so I wasn't up for hanging out on the balcony, anyway. The chairs in the sitting room and the desk chair in that room were pretty worn and old. The bathroom lights were not that great, and the mirror was old and shabby looking.
