Firkins Retreat, Picton

This is absolutely the best value-for-money booking I've ever made! We were pleasantly surprised every time we looked somewhere new in this property. It's spotlessly clean, and efficiently set up as a smart home - including blinds and lights on an automatic or prompted schedule that I historically find can be annoying, but manages to be nothing but helpful and fun here. The kitchen and living area are pristine, with a comfortable setup and expansive kitchen area. The outdoor balcony has an incredible view over all of Picton from a very comfortable and large outdoor furniture setup, and if that's somehow not quite comfy enough, you can make your way up to the hot tub for the same view but from the heated bubbly water! The beds are very comfortable, and the bathroom facilities are perfect. The host was very relaxed and friendly, and check-in was so easy. Communication, including a thoughtful guide book (and fun guest log book!) is perfect without being overbearing in any way. I truly have nothing to complain about here - it's a perfect stay.

Nothing - it's perfect! I would warn that the amazing views do come with the cost of the stairway to reach the property - it's nothing to worry about at all, but worth keeping in mind for those who are less fitness-inclined or who have a lot of really heavy luggage. Again, it's not far, and frankly it's worth the 30sec climb! There is also no air conditioning in the bedroom (there is AC in the living room) which was fine with the blinds closed, but it can get a little hot. Nothing to worry about though at all.

Spectacular one-bedroom with a panoramic view of Picton, the harbor, and sound. Floor to ceiling windows and a wrap-around deck (with a grill, sofa, and dining table) allow you to enjoy the view inside and out. Excellent kitchen, TV (if you can ignore your surroundings), very comfortable bed, great bathroom. Alexa can open and close blinds, and manage lighting and music. My husband declared he would not leave until the cleaners arrived or we needed to walk to the train.

There are just under 50 steps from the road to this retreat. No driveway (which is part of its charm.) We didn't have a car and walked there from the ferry. The steps zig-zag up with benches (if you need them). We're in our 70's and got up with suitcases, albeit slowly. Every step is worth it!

We couldn’t believe our luck walking up the stairs to see the house and view for the first time! Firkins Retreat is truly a retreat. Great amenities including a full kitchen and outdoor spa (which has a great view while you’re in it!) and we were amazed at how well considered and private it is. Brad was very responsive and friendly too. Would definitely stay here again!

This is npt actually something i didnt like just a tip for next guests, The washing machine shakes the floor of the house on spin cycle, took us hot minute to realize that's what it was and being from Christchurch was bit scary until we realized what it was haha.
