"Convenient for our stay."

6.0

It was convenient for where we were working and for the High Street. The kitchenette has everything you need for a short stay.

The access is through a carpark, which is dimly lit at night, through a metal gate, up a dog-leg metal fire escape staircase, across a balcony/terrace and through a narrow corridor. This wasn't easy to navigate with suitcases and old knees. I didn't enjoy arriving at that entrance after dark with youths hanging around in cars at the bottom of the stairs. The soundproofing between the spaces which have been divided into apartments is none-existent. (probably stud partition walls) Our neighbours were relatively quiet, but we heard their entire conversations each night. The flat itself is VERY small and requires some minor gymnastics to navigate around the bed.

"Dirty bed. Very disappointing."

1.0

Nothing, we couldn't even spend one night there due to the unsanitary conditions.

We booked this flat to attend our Daughters wedding nearby. The front door was missing its glass panel and replaced by hardboard. The inside resembled student digs. The bed smelled stale. Under the duvet was a very thin, cheap, crumpled base sheet, as if someone had already slept in it, with old looking stains, resembling blood. Others like mascara. It was translucent, showing the mattress beneath. We messaged the owner immediately for clean sheets, but then discovered the state of the mattress, which was bobbled, worn and contained yellowish and pale brown stains. There was no mattress protector, which he was unaware of. We requested a refund, which he refused, just responding that he’d send sheets. We said no, as changing sheets on a dirt mattress that is intrinsically unsanitary isn’t acceptable. The kettle was furred with limescale and there were stains on the unclean floor and rug, which the owner said were ‘irreversible’, but came off when rubbed. The whole place appeared grimy. After half an hour with no reply, we said that we were leaving. Another hour later, he just told us to contact booking.com. When told we had no alternative, he sent a 'thumbs up' emoji! We had to find alternative accommodation late on Friday. For a similar cost, we secured a clean, comfortable hotel nearby, of a far superior quality. We’d lost hours of much needed time for wedding arrangements sorting out this mess. We don’t suggest each apartment is like this one or that it’s always unclean. However, on this day it was way below basic hygiene and cleanliness standards. The owner didn’t engage with Booking.com for a few days, then made a derisory offer of £50 compensation. The matter has been escalated to the property management team. Booked nine months in advance, it would be nonsensical to leave the day before the wedding, causing us so much upheaval, without good reason. We’ve used Booking.com countless times without problems. If you book this place, I wish you better luck.
