"Un deuxième séjour parfait"

10.0

"Very Poor Communication & Very Unhelpful Hosts"

5.0

We have just returned from a 3-night stay in the riad. The riad itself is beautifully decorated with three en-suite rooms. The ‘pool’ is a plunge pool which is not heated. Since it isn’t in the sun, even in 33 degrees it was too cold to use, so we ended up not going in. The rooftop terrace is a good addition, and we spent a lot of time out there. Location-wise, it’s within the walls of the Medina, about a 15-minute walk from the main square, which we didn’t mind—it was calmer and away from the hustle and bustle. The riad is beside a palace that’s guarded, which made the area feel safer. The lady who came in to make us breakfast was lovely and polite, and the breakfast itself was traditional Moroccan and very tasty.

Our main issue with the property was the communication with the hosts. After booking, we were advised to send over a WhatsApp number so we could be messaged with the details and location of the riad the day before arrival. I messaged the riad a week before our trip with my number and also requested an airport transfer. The day before arrival, I still hadn’t received any messages on WhatsApp. I practically had to beg them to communicate with me on the day we were flying. Eventually, I was added into a group chat and sent a dropped pin with a location to meet them—but there was no mention of the transfer, and at that stage, we were about to board our flight so I didn’t push it. When we arrived at the pinned location, no one was there to meet us. We called the number provided—no answer. Eventually, a local (who we had to pay) helped us find the riad. When we arrived, the two young men who were supposed to meet us were lying on the rooftop terrace and clearly hadn’t bothered to come meet us. We had no further communication from the hosts throughout the entire stay. I had also asked if it was possible to leave our bags at the riad after check-out—no one responded. At check-out time, a different man arrived, seemingly just to make sure we left. After speaking with others on our trip, it was clear there are many other riads that are much more welcoming and helpful. Marrakech is like a maze, and the riad could definitely do more to offer proper guidance and directions. The location is down narrow streets—which we had no issue with. Yes, it can feel intimidating, and there were men standing on street corners, but we were a group of four women and no one interacted with us. In summary, reconsider booking this place. We have travelled to many countries in the world, and never have we encountered people running accommodation as unresponsive and unhelpful.

"Terrible"

3.0

Rooms, bathrooms, were all decent.

Location is absolutely terrible. You have to go through an annoying maze to get there. Parking you have to pay for 50Dh every time even though it’s supposed to be once a day. Crackheads in the corner as you turn into the entrance. Had one person who started a fight and waited inside the entryway of the Riad until I got back because he said I didn’t pay him but I paid the other guy. Scary location. Best of all. Police didn’t find the Riad, and staff was extremely unhelpful and not concerned. I’d go somewhere else not in a Maze with crackheads

The area felt safe at times as there were guards next to the palace but also unsafe other times as someone was at the door at 11.30 at night. The rooms were okay in cleansiness but the bedding could be improved. The lock to the riad can be fiddly until you crack it as once we cudnt get in for a while playing around with the lock late at night. A nice lady came each morning to prepare breakfast and clean up. Communication was okay but not always consistent. Air con worked in each room easy to use. Close to the main square in the medina. After reading the reviews can understand the area feeling unsafe and run down but it was okay if few of you together, just ensuring suitcases are locked being mindful of valuables etc. For the price it was ok with private kitchen and a hot tub (which needed a good clean )

If you don't have working Internet once in country you will really struggle to find this place. As my Internet not working no way to communicate with the host. Althought he did message in morning wouldn't know. The taxi dropped us off in opposite area and in the peak heat we just could not find it. The locals didn't know although they tried we were going round in circles until a very kind owner of another riad really helped us out for more than 40mins. He tried to ring the riad but no answer. The taxi driver rang but no answer. We were exhausted, eventually with the help of a local street cleaner the initial riad contacted, he took us directly to riad symba. How would we find it as there were no address, door number given to find it properly and no signs outside the place. You could literally walk past it. As mentioned its important your Internet is working for communication as the owner did mention he was looking for us outside. The hottub does need a good clean and ensuring to always remember to close the balcony door so birds don't get in. Not great for people with mobilty going up down stairs as there are 3 floors.
