"Absolute nightmare"

2.0

I have never been provoked to write a review, but this was one of the worst hotel experiences I have ever had. We were downgraded by the hotel a couple of weeks before our stay, without financial compensation, for the reason that they were hosting a private event that would end at 2am. Had we not been desperate for accommodation as we had a wedding locally I would have backed out right away. We were told the annex where we had been moved would be quiet and we would not have any disturbance. When the loud and busy party finished in the pub at 2am, the after party went on next door. We were kept awake by noise and people trying to enter our room (very scary) until I had to break up the party until 2:30am to disgruntled guests who told me they had booked every room in the hotel. The room we were allocated was far smaller that the room we had booked (at some cost) and nobody informed us that we had to ‘preorder breakfast’ - we were rudely told the next morning and had to wait until midday for the kitchen to open for lunch (despite other friends of the hotel being given breakfast). The owners were rude and unaccommodating, the room we were allocated was small and there were no curtains so we were awake with the morning sunlight. The only reason I’ve given this 2/10 is for a late checkout - but honestly without that I have absolutely nothing good to say about this stay.

"Country retreat but overpriced."

7.0

We were walking the Thames Path so the hotel was ideally located. The staff were hospitable & eager to make our stay comfortable. The food was very good.

It was overpriced. Whilst the food was good, the prices were very high. I don't think £30pp for a cooked breakfast is justifiable. We opted for the continental which was plentiful & varied but at £17! Our room was tiny & in an annexe off the car park. There was no door on the unsuited, only a curtain. There was no room to put luggage. Luckily we only had a rucksak. Also, I'm fairly petite but I'd like to be able to hang my clothes up on a rail that I can reach, not one placed to suit Amazon's.

"Beautiful location, well appointed room, helpful staff."

9.0

Although some confusion had arisen due to incomplete information at the time of booking through Booking.com, we were able to move to a room that allowed us to have our dog in the room with us. This minor problem was dealt with quickly and professionally.

"We loved our stay- and would highly recommend to anyone"

10.0

Friendly staff, good food, beer and wine- nice relaxed ambience, nice outside space, good location for the Thames footpath- lovely walk to Hambeldon Lock. Not too far from main road but very pretty and rural location. Very quiet and lots of parking. Comfy beds and pillows, clean room and bathroom. Nice decor and art in rooms and public areas. Tea and coffee in room great - more milk please next time as 2 pods not enough. Would definitely stay again or visit for food.

Nothing really - room 4 shower cubicle is small- wouldn’t suit everyone.
