Boutique Hotel de Kade Zaandam-Amsterdam

The room was nice.

Never felt so unsafe in my life as a single female traveller. There was a group of men partying outside of my room, and since there is no "reception" or "front desk," I felt unsafe. Couldn't sleep the whole night, because it was loud and I was terrified they would break into the room. Had to leave after 1 night.

Clean, comfortable, spacious. Well equipped and everything worked well.

Far from the station and city centre.

The hotel is in a very nice area. The room was big and comfortable. They had a coffee maschine which was really nice to have. The bathroom however could need a renovation. (Shower door was missing, watermark on the ceiling, water was constantly running in the toilet).

It was a prepaid booking for 3 nights. The additional city tax was paid early in the morning on arrival day as soon as i received the link, however when we arrived at 8pm to the hotel, we still did not receive the check-in information. (FYI There is no reception, therefore the hotel sends the room and check-in info via sms and booking.com) After arriving to the hotel we had to call the given phone number and wait til someone came (ca 20 minutes after the call) who then informed us that the room was not ready and cleaned yet. (According to hotel policy the room should have been ready for new checkin at 3pm). So we had to wait on a rainy evening almost an hour til the room was cleaned and we could only enter to the room about at 9.30pm. They said, we will have a compensation which was then never given.

The room was fine, but it was not clear when I booked this that it was a self check in. Relatively quiet for a place above a bar, but I was there on a Tuesday and Wednesday so, grains of salt.

The self check in was a bit ridiculous. Not only did I receive no instructions via text or email, but it took 10 minutes of me standing there pushing the call button on the intercom for someone to get on and talk to me. Even then the artifact was so bad I couldn't understand anything they said. I had sent two different emails to the property pending my arrival asking about how to check in, as well as several phone calls to a number which did not work. They claimed they had rexted/emailed me the check in procedure, but I didn't receive it until after I spoke with someone on the phone. I also used the "throw away" code the whole time I was there, because the codes which were supposed to work for the nights I was there never did. Curious. It's also a little far out of the way. Around a 10 minute walk to the tram and a 20-25 minute tram into central Amsterdam. There was also no door on the shower, so water splashed all over the floor. Not so great. It would have been much better with a clear and concise check in procedure.
