Monk Bar Garden Hideaway

Spacious and cozy place to stay, looked exactly like pictured. Easy to find and great instructions for check-in.

Knives in kitchen need to be sharpened as they were impossible to be used, bathroom smells like sewage as the smell lifts from the bathtub and sink drains.

The house was very cute and had all the amenities you might need. Bed was very comfortable, and all of the furnishings were very solid and nice and clean. Location very central and easy to get to from the station. The space was just right for a little break away.

The doors had little to no security, only having a Yale lock or sliding bathroom style locks on the outside doors, as a woman traveling alone I felt scared and found it hard to sleep as I felt like the doors were just not secure. The gate also had a simple lock and would have been easy to climb, especially as the entrance is down an alleyway. Other issues were only related to the cleanliness, there were lots of cobwebs around the property and mould in most rooms. The kitchen tap is wobbly and had mould on the wood and so did several of the windows. The TV box did not work, it kept saying it was updating and then making a loud noise and restarting, luckily my son who lives in York was able to bring me a fire stick. Although several issues were found non eof them meant that I couldn't have a good time.

The best part of this property is that you get a whole house to yourself. It is located a little outside the ring of York, in a calm alley. Value for money, indeed. It was really clean. The living room is a great place to lounge, and we think it would be the most pleasant in the Summer months. The customer service was very responsive over messages. Overall, a good stay in York.

The layout of the house is a little uncomfortable to navigate. The bed was not the best for us, slightly small and not too comfortable a mattress for us. We would have preferred to have some toiletries, but we could manage to buy some from supermarkets nearby. Overall, value for money, but could be better.

Bathroom was a fair bit away from the bedroom and the shower wasn’t very powerful and over the bath. But of noice in the early hours of the morning in the lane although it’s a dead end

The bungalow was clean and very cosy. It's perfect for a single traveller or a couple. I liked how it is set away from the main street, giving it a private feel. Location is ideal, great for taking your shopping back and returning to enjoy the sights.

The local parking on monk gate carpark has a no maximum stay, however the pay by phone app has a limit of a three day stay and no option to extend your time. I had to wait until my time run out then start a new time slot. Thankfully, this can be done via the app. Just something to be aware of for long stays.

Die Unterkunft ist ein perfekter Ausgangspunkt um viele von Yorks wunderschönen Sehenswürdigkeiten zu erkunden. Die Ausstattung um sich selbst zu versorgen ist Top. Die Wohnung ist modern und gemütlich. Bequemes Bett für sehr guten schlaf.

Leider war das Bad sehr klein. Nur 1,5 Handtücher pro Person.
