Rimba eco Resort

Very nice host. He gave us a lot of recommendations for where to go. Beautiful place and many cats and a dog.

It would be nice with a fan.

We loved Rimba Eco Resort. It's in a great location close to town, and close to waterfalls and jungle. It's easy to get a Grab to check things out locally, and the offerings for tours in the area are varied. We did a Minahasa Highlands all day tour to a volcano, waterfall, hot springs, geyser, and lake and a nighttime jungle walk to see tarsirs and snakes. Arno, the owner, loves nature and is an enthusiastic host and guide. The food was excellent and the staff were friendly and courteous. The bungalows were comfortable. No air conditioning necessary as it's much cooler in the highlands than in Manado. Keep in mind these are bungalows in the jungle, and the restaurant/common area is open air (but covered). If you don't want to see harmless critters maybe this isn't your style of accommodation. This is for nature lovers wanting an immersive experience with the convenience of a town closeby.

We really enjoyed Arno's place and company. His suggestions were on spot. And we even got a change to try his new fusion beef rendang he was testing to put on menu. Speaking of it, the food in general is quite good there. Rooms and facilities are fine (especially knowing it's been built from scratch with almost zero prior knowledge)

We know it's not Arno's fault, but the people down the valley do love to party most nights and it can get reeeeally noisy in the night with the sound climbing up the valley. Then of course, music stops and the mosques start all together at 4ish am...and at 6 am? The army training center nearby awakes the whole valley. After the first night though, I put earplugs in and didn't get bothered by any of it. Room could have been a bit cleaner.

Our stay at Rimba was very nice. We only had 2 days to see Tomohon and the host, Arno, facilitated our stay immensely. He got us in touch with local guides and a driver to visit all the highlights in 2 days. Food was great and the vibe very relaxed and laid back.

Though outside of the owners control, the village below is relatively noisy. Depending on how sensitive you are to noise, it could be a bit annoying.

The breakfast was very good. Be sure to try the tinutuan porridge, a tasty local specialty. Views from some bungalows were amazing. The day tour including market, volcano hike, hot springs, Watu Pinawetengan, etc. was very interesting.

The newest, most remote bungalow had a spectacular view, but was far downhill and required a climb of over 300 steps to get back to the restaurant level. Only one bungalow has a desk, so digital nomads may feel forced to work in the restaurant. The owner speaks fluent English and Dutch, but not all the staff do.

Zalige plaats in de natuur, hebben een super tour gedaan met Arno om tomohon te ontdekken, iedereen erg gastvrij , would recommend 100%!
