Kyoto Wakouan Retro Stay

Quiet, clean and well-equipped room. Size is great for 1 person. Very kind and attentive hosts. Excellent service - I had difficulties clothing my door lock, they changed it as soon as I asked for. I would definitely return, thank you for a great time!

Maybe better communication in booking app - host did not answer my messages there, but she was always easy to find in a house, so it was not a real problem

This is a very tradiational Kyoto style house. It has a beautiful garden, and self-sufficient rooms. They are small but fine. Not a luxury option, but a local experience, and the neighborhood is quiet and away from much of the tourism of Kyoto. The owner is very kind and helpful!

Rooms could be slightly better designed.

It was what I'd call a tradition Japanese guesthouse. I enjoyed the experience and had all the facilities that I needed. The host (and cleaning lady) were very nice people and helped me with all I needed. Loved the view from my window over the garden and into the neighbourhood. Definitely stay again.

A single shared shower was a little restrictive but the host had a very good booking system in place.

The house is beautiful! Felt very homely and it was great to look around and explore. The house is away from the main road so it was quiet at night. The other guests we met were very respectful. Junko is a great host who very clearly loves the house and teaching people about the culture of Kyoto. She gave us a tour and we loved it!

The entrance way is traditional so the stairs to get to the guest rooms are very narrow, which made getting our luggage up there a little difficult. Wouldn’t recommend for people who struggle with stairs or have big bags.

Accessibility to local transport. Jungko was very helpful in organising a taxi for us.
