Riana's Homestay

Rianas was great. Daud is a wonderful guide. He knows the area so well and we felt that every place he took us to was so authentic. The funeral we attended was mind blowing. Such a special time. The home stay was great. Very clean, Macy (Daud’s) daughter is so lovely. She made us tea any time we asked. And everything she did was with the biggest smile!!! We had a lovely stay. Room was large and clean. Nice outside sitting area with lovely small garden. Convenient location as base for exploring. Daud was an excellent guide and most helpful in all aspects of my stay. So happy I stayed with this family in their most inviting Homestay.

Loved everything!

I had a very comfortable stay at Riana's for a total of six nights. Pak Daud and his family were wonderful hosts and happy to help with any request. The room was spacious and clean, the bathroom had hot water, and clean towels were provided. The family also prepared a vegetarian breakfast on request. Great location, easy to get to restaurants & cafes. Excellent value for money.

The family is very accommodating and happy to help in every request. You can rent a bike from them to go around the area. The house is simple and beautiful, with a lot of green and passion fruit to pick when ready. Mr Douve is very knowledgeable and he speaks a very good English, and he is always keen to explain the torajan culture and tell what to do around the area. I really enjoyed meeting them and the first day I had a long talk with him about their traditions etc. as solo traveller and without a guide was really valuable. My room was huge, the bed as well. Basic and comfy. All I need

The only down side the shower water was really weak and hard to have a shower. But other guests in next room told me they didn’t have similar problem. You must get to use with the morning early Church’s around and all the checkens singing but I think that is kind everywhere in the area

The location is perfect, it's like a small green village inside a city, which is a quick and easy walk to the main square, good places to eat, and all the good cafes. The rooms are wonderful and have good hot water, very comfortable beds, are impeccably clean, and super spacious. The owners are so lovely and they make great breakfast. Considering how great it's way underpriced and great value.

Sometimes it was a bit awkward walking through the family's living room to fill up my water, but they were always really friendly and kind so I think it was my own anxiety maybe not an actual issue.

Very well clean, perfect location and very nice family. You can rent a motorbike from them for a good price. The owner Daud is a very good guide, we attended a tradicional ceremony and we did a 2 days trekking. 100% recommended.

It's not their fault but every time muslims pray you hear them very loud through the speakers. It happens in the whole Rantepao.

We had a great stay at Riana’s Homestay. Room is basic but large, confortable and clean. Breakfast is good (coffee/tea + pancake/egg + juice). More importantly, Daud and his daughter are available and can help you with anything. Daud is also a guide and he took us for a day around Tana Toraja that he knows very well. Full day included ceremony and visits of lesser known caves, rice fields and villages. You can trust him :) He speaks very well English and will have many stories and information to give you, we could feel the passion to share and it was so enjoyable. All of this made our stay in Tana Toraja an amazing experience ! Thanks a lot Daud

Dumb the owner is one of the most honest person you can find in Rantapao. Speaking to him, you feel with conviction that he is all about earning a fair and honest living, and despises others that try to overcharge tourists in the process ruining the image and reputation of his town. His family members who help run the Homestay are all very friendly and hospitable, making you feel right at home. I am so pleased to have found this place.

The noise from the church at 5am and mosque later on, followed by animals is guaranteed to wake you up in the morning. But if you did what I did - adjust my time so I went to bed early and wake up with the noise to do by bedtime journal writing, video watching etc in the morning instead - then you'll be fine and happy.
