Sulu Sunset Beach Resort

Decor. Very natural and organic. Staff were awesome especially the owner. So much wood. Beds are very comfortable.

Mosquitoes. My bad. Didn't deploy the mosquito net until I had been well chewed on. After that, bliss. We're in the tropics folks.

Location, clear water, good food at reasonable prices. Staff were well trained and had common sense about things. Beach was great with all development set back quite far from the waters edge.

Neighboring resort provided basic amenities but their Karaoke was played too loud. The cottages were well maintained but mattress was not not comfortable.

I was here in 2023 (May 30-June 3) but I came in the wrong time because it was raining hard that time, so I said, I am coming back summer of this year, which I did. I really love this place! It's by Sugar Beach, you have the best view of the sunset, they have really great staff and the owners are so delightful (especially to Grace and Jean and her husband Jurgen), food is very good, and the best part for me is I get to stay in one of the small cottages in the resort. I love the 2-bed cottage, it is a fan room, but I love the rustic, native built of it. The native, island vibe is just perfect. The place overall is really quiet, you wouldn't expect some loud music playing, and where the cottages are, are fairly distant from the common area/dining hall where the guests are. The surroundings are amazing, with so many trees and a nice garden, it is such a holiday paradise for me. It gets really quiet and peaceful during the evening, which is something I love. The access to the beach is just few steps away and they have beach chairs, some swings and tables so you can enjoy the view. They have also a really good wifi connection in the place, but as you get further away from the dining hall, the connection gets weaker, overall, the connection is strong and reliable. I brought my work with me, and there was not a single problem doing my work with their strong internet connection.

It's not what I didn't like, but maybe something they can improve on. I noticed in the cottages that they are "inconsistent" For example, one cottage has a clothesline by the entrance of their cottage (Cottage 1 where I stayed in 2023), and some don't (like Cottage 2 where I recently stayed in) the cottage at the further end has a faucet where they can rinse the sand, and another one has a bigger space by their doorstep. Also, it would be great if they had a water dispenser in the dining hall where it serves hot and cold water. I always have to walk to their kitchen and ask for hot water, so it would be great if it is readily available and can be accessed anytime of the day. Overall everything is really good, they got everything you need.

Jürgen, David and their family make this resort a place you never want to leave again. With their warm cordiality and love for the detail they have created a tropical paradise underneath palm trees right at the most beautiful beach in Sipalay. Days melted into each other while I lost the feeling of time and space. No matter if you just want to relax or have good conversation with the other guests or the family - you feel at home.

It's a very quiet place, very relaxing. Good value and the food and drinks menu has been the cheapest of the resorts I've been to soo far and the food quality was excellent.

My room didn't have air conditioning, only a fan. But I survived. I also knew ahead of time my room didn't have air conditioning. Other rooms do.

We stayed for one night in the family cottage and that was nice. The water is clean and warm and there are not a lot of people on the beach. So it was very pleasant.

I wasn't aware that the facility does not accept credit card. Only cash. Thankfully we have enough cash to cover for lunch and dinner for 8 people. We skipped breakfast since we ran out of cash. Your only option is to pay the food by cash gcash or PayPal which we don't have. There's a lot of plastic bottles and garbage between the border of another facility.

I stayed here 5 years ago and have always wanted to revisit. It is just as good as before and I was not disappointed.

I would have spent more money if credit cards were accepted - so perhaps it is good that it is cash only.
