Elegant apartment in Riga centre

Nothing absolutely

I have never left a bad review before, but this will be my first. Please, do not come to this place. Bed linens: You have to make the bed yourself. The sheets smelled of sweat and were covered in stains. It was obvious they had not been washed. Bathroom: The stench was so bad it spread throughout the entire apartment. I couldn’t even take a shower because of the overpowering smell of urine. Location: The apartment is in a terrible area. Ladies, you absolutely mustn’t stay there! Owner: The owner tried to scam me for money. The required security deposit was 50€—fine, no problem. But then he added, “And also a 5€ tax.” The next day, he returned only 45€ of my deposit. I asked for the return in one bill, as I had given it, because there is no such thing as a 5€ tax! I had already paid 1€ as required. He got angry and kicked me out. Very unpleasant person. Very spacious with unique decor and furnishings. Location was good being very close to the bus station and Riga market, and easy walking distance to the Old Town.

When we booked in January the property had a high ranking. Since then it must have deteriorated. The bathroom had a constant mouldy smell that couldn't be removed by leaving the extractor on. Bedding and towels were clean but seemed very old. Although beautifully furnished the apartment was quite dusty. We paid the 50 euro deposit on arrival as noted on Booking.com. We are not sure why we were deducted 5 euro on check-out, perhaps it was because we left the extractor on constantly. The owner did not respond quickly to messages. The apartment could have been amazing but was let down by neglect.

This apartment is one of a kind. What you get is not a standard ikea designed apartment in an European country capital center. Brace yourself for a different treat - you'll get a glimpse of a soviet times luxury. You may or may not like it but you won't forget it.

Really good looking and comfortable place to stay. Close to the Old Town and main train station. Adventurous staircase, yet flat itself peaceful and very quiet. Embrace Riga as it is and enjoy!
