"Good except for entry."

5.0

Charming

The entry code supplied by booking. com was incorrect. We could not enter for a while until the owner found someone to let us in. At the end of a long sweaty day in London this was not appreciated.

"A 600-year old cottage, next to scaffolding, a base for walking out but not staying in."

4.0

The location is very good although the house is on the road and there is some traffic in the morning. Arrival and leaving times are generous. There are many footpaths nearby. The kitchen is a good size with pretty much everything you may need, except egg cups. One can sit out in the garden of an evening (btw, the cushions are in the woodshed to keep them dry). Comfortable double bed and quality linen.

There are renovations going on in the neighbouring property. We have not been warned about them. There was a constant noise of cutting and sanding as well as radio music coming from a speaker on the builder’s truck. If we were not out so much it would have ruined our stay as it certainly was neither a gorgeous or quiet place. There were no curtains in two of the rooms so we used the towels instead. As might be expected for a property this age there are multiple floor levels and structural quirks. The low ceiling was not a problem but the door lintel to the middle bedroom claimed my scalp. Somehow, the cottage is not as comfortable as it could be, but this does not seem to upset Sidney the spider, who only comes out in the evening, but does think he owns the place. Do not get tricked by the quality teas shown on the photos - there are PG bags instead. The cottage is very overpriced and poor value for a large amount of money.

"Characterful, historic cottage in a pretty village located in the lovely Hambleden valley"

8.0

The cottage has character (grade II listed), a well equipped kitchen, an enclosed garden and is located in a pretty village. Unfortunately the pub in the village itself was closed for refurbishment but there are a couple of others within walking distance (1-2 miles).

There are no pictures on the walls (only empty hooks). The cushions are obviously left in the garden chairs in all weather; they were wet because it had rained the day before we came and they stayed wet until we left three days later. If you took them out, underneath there was green slime on the seats of the chairs so we couldn't use them. Which was a pity because the weather was nice and we would have liked to eat outside. Also - because the house is very old - the ceilings on the ground floor are very low; if you are taller than 1.70 m you've got to continually duck your head (low beams).
