USI like that it was comfortable and it was spacious .
NZI’m trying really hard to be objective here so bear with me. I had a reasonably long stay (a week and a half) so I think I have a pretty good handle on things. This is a really difficult review since there were some good points and some bad points, so the final verdict will depend on your point of view. First the good. The room is in a handy location. It is around a 5 minute walk to the stadium, convention centre, and train station. The harbour is around a 20 minute walk, and there are some cool things to see there (aquarium, historic ships, etc). The room is also cheap, being around half the price of some of the nearby hotels, and there many other options if you want to be in this location for a reasonable price. The wifi is good, and the tv in the room is good, and there is a good range of channels available. Would I recommend staying there? I don’t know. If you can afford it, you would be better off staying at one of the expensive hotels nearby. If you are reading this review, I suspect you are budget-conscious, so in that case you can consider paying your money and taking your chances. If you know what to expect you should hopefully be prepared. Good luck!
Now the bad. While it’s mostly ok to walk around during the day, it can get sketchy after dark. Which brings me to my first issue. The host did not send me the front door code prior to travelling, so I arrived after dark with no way to get in. Unfortunately, my phone plan wouldn’t roam on the local network, so I had no way to contact them and was stuck on the street with all of my luggage. Some guys were loitering outside the gas station opposite so it was concerning, bordering on unsafe. Luckily it was only 7pm and a convenience store down the street was still open, and they kindly lent me a phone to call and eventually get sent the door code. No apology from the host, just excuses why they hadn’t provided the code earlier. Other reviews sum up many of the negatives. Yes the room is small. Much smaller than the picture. Your suitcase will likely take up the whole floor space. Yes the kitchen smells like weed. Yes the walls are thin and some of the other guests are inconsiderate. By that I mean stomping up and down the stairs at all hours, talking and playing music until 3am, etc. Bring ear plugs. Yes the bathroom cleanliness is average. There was hair clogging the shower drain, but in fairness it was cleaned up the next day. It didn’t look like anyone ever cleaned behind the faucet though. Bring shower shoes. There’s no in-room housekeeping so the trash can in the room is not emptied. If you have any proper garbage, find another place to put it. Yes, the neighbourhood can be a bit sketchy. The convenience store was robbed during my stay, and while walking around I was accosted by 3 people wanting money. One night I arrived after dark around 8pm. There were 4 guys loitering outside on the stairs right next to the front door. It didn’t feel safe to walk up to them and bend over to enter the door code right in front of them. So I waited at the bar up the street until they left about an hour later. If this is an issue for you, consider a hotel with a 24hr reception.
PTLocation was the best quite central, and it was quiet. The entering process to the building was good and safe. The bathroom was very good, spacious and had shower gel and shampoo.
There was some dust and even a lost coca cola bottle under the bed, so need just little more attention to the cleaning. And that is the only remark I would make.
USThe bed was very comfortable. It was a great spot for the event my friend and I attended to a couple blocks away.
The bathroom had a strange smell when we arrived.
