De locatie, gezien die dichtbij de haven was waar we de volgende ochtend een boot moesten nemen.

De vrouw die ons onthaalde was niet erg vriendelijk. Ze leek vooral geïnteresseerd in geld ontvangen. De badkamer was niet proper. De wifi werkte amper. De keuken was slecht uitgerust. Er was bijna geen keukengerief of het was kapot/versleten.

As this is a budget hotel, one can not be too harsh in their criticism of any amenities or there lack of. The room was adequate, sizeable for us and the private bathroom did not disappoint in its functionality or decorum. The toilet flushed and the shower sprayed - no complaints. The kitchen had the microwave we so required. Again, it was a minimalist no-frills arrangement but fitting for the price. The staff exhibited an adequate level of bonhomie, expected from a hotel where clientele are likely to rest their heads for a solitary night before departing across the frontier.

The sun makes its presence known in La Unión. Watching the ceiling fan spin limply above our sweat-saturated heads in order to reduce the heat was like watching a tired pensioner throw punches hopelessly at a heavyweight boxer. The heat merely smirked. An upgraded fan would go a long way in that room.

The location is convenient to get to the port in the morning.

It is unbearably hot in the room, the heat in this room was the worst of all the places I’ve travelled to in Central America. Pay the extra aircon fee, I made the mistake of thinking it would cool down at night, it did not and stayed hot and it was too late in the night by the time I realised and didn’t sleep at all. There were bugs, stains and the shower water smelled like sewerage.
