The Harrowgate Hill Lodge

Although we hadn't booked a ground floor room , the staff member willingly swapped our first floor room for a ground room in view of my wife,s infirmities

When booking I hadn,t been given the option to choose a ground level room or that toaster etc was available to be used

Bed was comfortable, there was a fan in the room which was gladly received as the weather was really hot, in the 30's.

The room decor was somewhat tired and in need of updating.

Dirty room no toilet bath water was cold kettle was disgusting couldn’t make hot drink as the kettle made the water taste disgusting tea and coffee left in room out of date no toiletries the bed was absolutely indescribable. It dipped in the middle and the mattress was absolutely disgusting. You could fill the springs through it, we were given top floor room in a heat wave with no working fan even though the hotel was empty as a downstairs room to be cooler told there wasn’t any complete waste of money the stay was awful.

The bed was comfortable with great pillows this was the only decent thing about this room

The room smelt like a dirty old ash tray there was cigarette ash and tobacco in the draws old food in another drawer, the carpet was filthy. This hotel is obviously used to house council tenants for temporary accommodation they was sitting in reception in pyjamas and slippers or standing outside smoking this was very intimidating. The noise at night from them going room to room drunk and shouting made for a very poor nights sleep.

There was a pub right next door that served good food

Location it was a bit to far away from shops

Reasonably priced great having the Pub next door for Food and Drink pity Breakfast doesn't start till 11 though

Room smelt very damp and fusty not nice at all opened the window but it is restricted so didn't help much

Comfortable and close to Darlington

Cigarette smoke smell throughout the hotel
