Mælstrøm End Eco Farmstay

Really great stay here. Loved seeing all the animals

This accommodation cost $141, the most expensive in our 12 day trip, and there is a trust one has that normal facilities are provided. as all other lower cost accommodation included. This accommodation is a garden shed steel hotbox, surrounded by unkempt unattended weeds. There is no ventilation. no fly screens. small deck, 2m wide, no shelter from weather, no shade. there is no sink, no water tap. Not even a garden hose for washing plates. "Kitchen" is a small cabinet, with kettle, coffee, jug of water and a couple of plates etc. a 7L cosmetics cooler is "the fridge" You are not expected to eat there. there is absolutely no cooking or food heating capability. they recommend you drive a 50km return journey to Collingwood to get a restaurant meal. The bed was OK. Quote on Booking site, "shower and bathroom". These are away from the hut in the main house. must walk across a car park, and enter next to their kitchen & lounge to share their bathroom & toilet. There is no lock on bathroom door. Leaves one feeling invasive. Nothing "eco" about this farmstay, it being a euphemism for lack of provided facilities. the sea is a few km drive away.

We absolutely loved our stay here with Karl and Sea! The cabin we stayed in was a spacious, well decorated and well equipped home for our 2 nights in the area. Location is perfect as it’s not far from Wharariki Beach and also has an amazing view of the Spit. The couple that own the place were so welcoming and had great communication with us about our stay. They also let us feed some of the animals on the farm which we enjoyed very much. Overall, our stay was a highlight of our time in the South Island of NZ and we couldn’t thank Karl and Sea enough for their hospitality. They were exceptional : )

My daughter and I loved the very special location of the farm at the tippy top of the South Island, with its spectacular views en route and once we arrived. The cozy, comfy bunkie and sweet porch were a perfect mini-retreat, and we appreciated the warm hospitality of our hosts, Sea and Karl, along with their local knowledge. We enjoyed meeting many of the beloved farm animals with their hilarious names, and visiting the local swimming hole, the spectacular walks, and the incredible nearby Wharariki Beach (which was so cool even in the partial fog). All of these elements contributed to our wonderful unforgettable time at Mælstrøm End Eco Farmstay and our visit to this serene yet vibrant corner of the Earth (we already miss their magical and friendly white shepherd dog!)

Sea and Karl were wonderful hosts - very kind, helpful and so interesting to learn from. Sea and Karl invited us to feed their animals which was a very fun experience. The location is wonderful with spectacular views across the spit from the property.

This little cabin is nestled in paradise! Sea and Karl and their menagerie of animals are a delight! I loved the luscious decor and I woke every morning to coffee and glorious views out over old man rock. Sea and Karl were full of great information about day trips to local spots, and friendly lovely hosts. I’ll 100% be back again! The staff were also excellent and went above and beyond to make my stay a pleasure.
