Kumamoto Guesthouse Minami Aso Little Asia

Nice little guesthouse for few days, it is actually a 30min walk from train station if u dont have a car, if you are lucky there is sometime a bus going from the guesthouse to the train station, Google maps time was accurate. Good value for money, and good location if u want to explore a little bit Minamiaso Valley which is quite beautifull also (don't just do Aso it's overcrowded) i think they can help you for hiking place around or what to do in the Valley. Bunk beds are confortable and there is a kitchen and fridge to store food.

It's unclear who is the staff to help / who is the family that lives here, we sometime had the impression to disturb them in the common area.. we felt a little bit watched at some point. The old men is entering the dorm to show people which bed they are, even if it's empty you can't chose your bed. Is also moving your stuff if it's not in a "correct place" ?! That's quite unusual ..

Great location close to the mountains

The room and other facilities were a bit dirty, the hostel has just one shower unit for quite a lot of people it can accomodate

Peacefulness and isolation

There is no grocery store. It is important to know you should plan accordingly.

The price, the kitchen is wide and you can cook.

It wasn't clean enough. Even if the kitchen is spacious, the waste bins were full to the rim. And in general it didn't feel great eating there. One shower for I don't know how many people so the waiting was long, the shower didnt feel that clean either. Two toilets. Dormitory is crowded and the proximity to strangers is a bit uncomfortable. There is no light for each bunk bed and worse of all is the bedding. You get clean sheet and small sheet for the pillow. The blanket itself and the pillow is not clean or at least has been used by others. This is the basic of the basic and we have stayed in dormitories that were awesome. This is not it. Good for travelers who are really aren't picky.

Very nice place to relax in the countryside !

Should I have known, I would have rented a car. The place is 2km uphill from the train & bus station. There are only 4 buses a day. If you want to visit the volcano I recommend staying in Aso.
