Corby Guest House

The property is a nice semi detached house on an estate. Very well maintained and spotlessly clean.

The proprietor does not live on site and didn’t respond to messages. She told me on the phone to choose whichever room i liked. The one I booked (the only en suite) smelled so strongly of paint I could not stay in there. The other rooms upstairs meant sharing a bathroom. The second room downstairs was right next to a bathroom but the radiator was stuck on full and was boiling hot. I received no response to my request for the WiFi details. In the end, I left and made other arrangements.

The location was the most important reason for choosing this place . Near to the Shire Horse pub where I was attending a Zappa themed festival , moo-Ah

I booked and paid for an en suite room on January 15 , just before setting off from home , a journey involving a bus , 4 trains and a taxi , I received a text telling me that the en suite was no longer available , but I could change to another house (3.5 miles away ) or settle for a room with a shared bathroom in the original house . No refund was offered, the lady even said I 'was very cheeky ' to ask for a reduction . This added to the stress of the journey and tainted an overwise great weekend . So if you book the en suite room , don't be surprised if you get a text when it is too late to get alternative accommodation. I will be returning to Corby every year for the Moo-Ah festival , but will not be using this establishment. Plus the wi-fi was rubbish .

Very comfortable little room. Lovely and cosy. Bed was very comfy. I’m six foot so often struggle in a single bed, but this one was long and wider than usual and I had an excellent nights sleep. Shower had great pressure and lovely big soft towel provided. Great stay and would highly recommend.

The price

They stay was cancelled as I was travelling down from the North East by the host. It was due to an emergency which is understandable. I was refunded in full to the host's credit. I cannot say any more than that to be honest. I do hope everything has worked out for the better.

Didn't like anything about my experience there, horrible

Arrived after 16.00, it was raining, rang the doorbell and it took quite a long while before someone appeared through a side gate. There was no greeting. I explained that I had a reservation, tried to show the lady the booking on my phone but she seemed uninterested, saying she doesn't have her glasses. She didn't even know what room I had booked and tried to give me a room without ensuite. I tried to explain and all she said was that it probably wax room no 6. She then gave me a front door key. I had to ask about the key to the bedroom to which she rudely said it was in the bedroom door. She then walked off and disappeared back through the side gate. There was no further explanation as to the security, layout or health and safety explanation of the house. I called out to her but she never answered or came to my assistance. I then had to find the room myself. There were no coffee or tea making facilities in the room, no folded clean towels on the bed. In the bathroom there were two towels thrown over the bath, looked like they have been used. The wardrobe handles were broken and missing, the bed was uncomfortable. I left early before 6am and could wait to get out of there. I looked the front and threw the key through the letter box as there was no explanation of where I could leave the key.
