"A wonderful boutique hotel with boat access only"

9.0

Very reasonably priced, with wonderful helpful staff, great food, good pool overlooking the lovely water view and the old fort, and a free boat into town and back. This is a fairly new establishment, so everything was in really good condition. Javier, Ruby, Rosmy, Ruth and Ana were all great staff.

Wifi and electricity dropped out from time to time which made long calls impossible. Javier, on the staff however, let my partner use his own internet on one occasion. The suite was far smaller than it appeared to be on the website, and there was nowhere to hang clothes.

"Very friendly staff and great location, but not worth the money"

7.0

Casa Caribe hotel has a lot of potential but wasn't worth the money for us. The staff was very friendly and it's beautifully located. The pool, jacuzzi, free kayaks and swings over the river were great. Very large and comfortable bed. The food and drinks were reasonably priced. Breakfast was the best part of the menu.

The facilities were a bit rundown, and as the building and room is from wood, it is quite noisy. Every time other guests walked past our room, or in the room above us, it sounded as if the building could collapse. Also, while the food wasn't bad, the menu options were limited - especially for vegetarians. We didn't take a boat to town to try other restaurants there, because it was raining, but there might be more vegetarian options there.

"Very nice stay but scammers for the boat ride"

9.0

Nice facilities, nice view, nice employees

We liked everything but feel disappointed because they scammed us really big. We booked a tour to Livingston for 1000Q and they told us to pay 50% in advance, so we did. Turns out they kept 200Q to themselves. That they keep some of it, I understand, but this was too much.

After a month of traveling through Guatemala and Belize, we ended our journey in this lovely paradise. We spent three wonderful days relaxing by the pool and soaking up the peaceful atmosphere of this place. The staff was incredibly kind and made sure we had everything we needed—special thanks to Mario, Wendy, Albert, Ruth, Anna and the rest of the team! The food was delicious, but as a tip, we would suggest adapting the menu a bit more to local cuisine instead of mainly catering to tourists. We were also very happy with the little boat, which, upon request, could take us anywhere we wanted to go. Thank you, Casa Caribe Hotel, for making the end of our journey unforgettable.

"Stay at casa caribe"

7.0

The staff was very friendly, and gave us a little tour of the surrounding area on our boat ride to the hotel. The staff let us change room after the AC system made the walls rattle and so was very loud. Unfortunately the facilities were not perfectly clean, I found a hairball on the wall in the first room and then a dead coackroach in the new room, although it is pretty much in the jungle so insects can be expected. The pool was not very clean, but it was OK to swim in. The hot tub is a nice touch, you can also make use of some kayaks that are present on site but these are also not very clean because of bird droppings. There was also a smell of cat urine around the facility that might be due to the cats that linger nearby and on the hotel grounds at night. We were the only guests, the food was great and so were the drinks and the kitchen was very clean. The location is also superb with a great view of Castillo San Felipe. You can take the kayak out in the morning and enjoy the sunrise and also go into the back river ways that surround the hotel. The hotel also has several walking paths although you have to watch your step on the bridges as some are quite wobbly. We enjoyed our stay and really liked the friendlness of staff and the beautiful location, but believe that it can be better for the price tag per night. Also when we stayed out later one night in the main town, the staff reached out to make sure we were ok, this is was nice as they wanted to make sure their guests were safe, so it shows that they care.

"Beautiful place"

Beautiful view of the Castillo de San Felipe. Really enjoyed the boat ride and mini tour the hotel and offers. Everyone was really nice and very accommodating. It was the perfect way to enjoy Rio Dulce and admire the beauty this place has to offer. Gracias a todos. Un agradecimiento especial a Alvin y a las muchachas del restaurante.

"Not what we expected, rather rundown and in need of maintenaince!"

5.0

What is great about Casa Caribe is the location, in a jungle area, very quiet and relaxed. Breakfast was nice, the ladies working there were very friendly and helpfull.

Unfortunately there are a lot of negatives. Casa Caribe is not a new hotel, it is in fact quite old and rundown and has been taken over by a new owner and been given a new name. You could tell everything was rather old and needed some desperate maintenaince. The first room we were given had a really awful smell and the bed was small. There were holes in the walls and a lot of loose wiring coming from the walls and ceiling, and the aircon was at least 20 years old. The view was of a sceptic tank that had been dug up along with a lot of rubbish… not the best start. After mentioning this we were given another room, with a much better bed and new aircon unit. So after the room switch we were content with the room, but not the best first impression… Then the common area’s, the bar area is nice with a great view and the bartender makes great Margarita’s. We enjoyed the chapin breakfast but the other dishes were not great. The pool area was under construction, the pool itself was not very clean, and the jacuzzi was not working. Overall the staff was nice but we got a bit of a weird vibe from the manager Mario. He doesn’t speak any English at all and we noticed it caused a few guests some issues. Also he refuses to bring you anywhere before 08:00, so don’t book an early tour! Also the transportation in general is not ideal. You can join Mario for free on the lancha to Rio Dulce at 12:00, 13:00 and 17:00 and get picked up for free at 17:30. Any other time will cost you Q60. As Rio Dulce was our last destination in Guatemala we wanted to treat ourselve to a bit of luxury, (which you should expect for the price…) unfortunately Casa Caribe did not deliver. All in all I do believe that Casa Caribe has lots of potential, but they seriously need to do some maintenance, upkeep and cleaning because as it is now it is definitely not worth the money…

"This is a gem that’s kind of hidden away"

8.0

The property has an incredible view of the Castle and it’s such a unique property. There’s so much to see and enjoy here. Mario and the staff are fantastic.

Finding the parking and getting ahold of the property was a little challenging. Mostly because we didn’t have wifi or cellular signal but that’s on us It’s unique to have a property you can’t drive to and that was really cool.
