Star Castle Hotel

Star castle is a fantastic place to stay. Everything about it was wonderful, from the winding entrance past stone walls, the friendly welcome and the excellent service by all the staff, to the quirky and very comfortable rooms. The food is exceptional and I enjoyed visiting both the restaurant and the dungeon bar. the swimming pool is also nice and warm, perfect for the slightly chilly days in autumn.

The pool could have been cleaner, there is a lot of algae growing in it. Very minor point and didn't impact my stay.

Very old and quirky property. Stayed in garden suite which was large and very comfortable. Food was excellent and staff very attentive.

Some areas were difficult for access if you had mobility problems.

Breakfast was Ok - a little limited other than "cooked" Dinner was good, but perhaps over elaborate Room - very small and not easy to move around due to sloping ceiling in eaves. Bathroom was tired

Unique historical hotel in the centre of the original Garrison battlements. Breakfast was good, dinners excellent with a choice of two restaurants. Bedroom was the guards room which was small but comfortable, stone with its own door accessed from the castle wide grassy battlements. Quite an experience.

On initial entry to the room it looked clean but the phone did not work so looking to see if it was plugged in I checked behind the bedside table to be faced with a cobweb and a rather large spider which looked as if it had been in residence for some time. I think that because of the nature of an old stone building and with the nooks and crannies extra care is needed when cleaning the room.

Great location even if it was at the top of a steep hill. Views are fantastic. Staff were all very friendly and efficient and very helpful.

Room was a little small but very clean and comfortable.
