Mafia Dream Hotel

As other reviews said this place is very new - they opened in November/December 2023. They are doing an excelllent job in their first season. It is very clean, the staff are very helpful and accommodating. Hamidu did all of the organizing and the man responsible for the meals (I’m sorry I forget his name!) was beyond kind. He remembered our preferences, saved our seats, and even on the last night lit candles with little papers saying “last night ! Welcome” “special 4 you”. It was simple but very very sweet. They will coordinate all excursions if you’d like. Even when we decided to cancel more typical excursions due to weather (we had bad luck with rainy days while there), they can coordinate Tuktuks, cars, and boats. My husband really wanted to sail a dhow and they coordinated that for us. We had some logistical hiccups and we definitely inconvenienced Hamidu a few times for it. He was very polite and didn’t show his annoyance though he had every right to be annoyed. The food in the restaurant is also AMAZING. I thought some reviews were exaggerating but they were some of the best meals we’ve had in Tanzania. When we ate the first day we thought “why would we eat anywhere else?”. It was only on day 3 or 4 when we almost exhausted the menu that we were feeling ready for other foods. I recommend the grilled octopus, grilled calamary, beef samosas , and the chicken spring roll. The WiFi was very reliable for us. Our room was closer to the reception so I suspect it was good because we were close to the router. I had no trouble streaming even with a vpn which notoriously slows my connection. Usually they did turndown service when we ate at the dinner. The rooms felt like a nice clean oasis after ocean beach filled days. AC was very reliable and quick to cool the room if we needed. Overall we were extremely impressed considering it’s their first season. I wish them luck! I’m sure they will be a very popular hotel

One complaint which is so so small in my opinion but my husband did not like the lack of comfortable seating chairs. There are some loungers by the pool and chairs in the restaurant but I guess he really likes a nice chair with good back support in his room!

The hotel is amazing. It is very new which is why it has so few reviews and why it is cheaper than other hotels of this standard. The rooms are excellent, right by the pool. With fans and aircon and a lovely en-suite bathroom. The restaurant is very nice and the staff were all fantastic!

The Wi-Fi is only in the restaurant and reception area, and it is sometimes inconsistent. This is the case all over the island, not just at the hotel and they did everything they could to help me whilst I was trying to work, but it is worth knowing this may be an issue wherever you are on the island so it is probably best to hotspot off your phone.
