Vangvieng Pool House Hotel

Friendly staff, good laundry service. Facilities were ok (bathroom not very clean, with sink drain leaking onto the floor).

Booking.com shows 24h check-in, but this was not the case. I showed up in the middle of the night, having taken a sleeper bus from Nong Khiaw, and when I arrived, I called the receptionist using the number posted at the reception. She was being woken up in the middle of her sleep, and was very much out of it. There was a misunderstanding as she thought that I only booked the following night, not the night that I was arriving (I had two bookings), so we went back & forth quite a bit using google translate until she just gave me a bed, which to her mind I hadn't reserved. Everything was cleared up the following morning, and she turned out to be very friendly when well rested.

The property is in a fantastic location with a pool and a cute bar. The staff don’t speak English but are very friendly and happy to help book tours and give advice over Google Translate. The rooms were sweet and comfortable. It is good value for the price.

The bathroom had an issue with leaking, meaning the floor in the room got wet and soaked some of our clothes.

I had a wonderful time at this hostel. + It’s centrally located, so everything is within walking distance. The team speaks good English and is very attentive. The morning spread was enjoyable, and the rooms were very clean.

A bit noisy near the hotel

We had ants in the our bathroom and all over our room. We had rock-hard pillows akin to sleeping on a block of stone. The door to our private room didn't close properly. We had a constant loud dripping sound that could be heard all night from our room. The common areas were very dirty, after the staff were partying the night before and the rubbish and debris was not cleaned up until lunchtime the next day. The pool was unusable as it was very dirty. No mugs were provided to have use with the 'free coffee', and the complimentary water was empty until mid-morning. The staff were extremely unhelpful and rarely present at the front desk. One of our group left a very expensive retainer for her teeth in the room by mistake upon checking out. She messaged the manager within 3 hours of leaving that she would arrange for someone to collect it on her behalf, and when said person arrived at the hostel, he was told that it had been thrown away. Pictures are very deceiving, it is very much a run-down hostel rather than a nice, well maintained hotel.

Very friendly hosts, and good location in town.

Wifi worked when it was on, but it kept turning off. Water was also shut on us multiple times. Bathroom felt a bit dirty.

Staff very helpful - clean room - good location

Pool may as well have not been there. Doesn't get any sun. Hotel is generally dirty and unkept. Our room smelt badly of sewage. Staff explained that it is an environmental issue with a sewage pipe and have tried to add lots of air fresheners to the room - if you turn off the extractor fan in the room and leave air con on it helps alot with the smell.

I got a private room and it did smell a bit And the internet router is connected to a specific room, so every time the person from that room left and turned off their electricity, the whole internet shut down
