Remote location - perfect sunset

The Karumba Lodge was terrific. it is in a relatively undeveloped area (not Nungwi) and of course you get the dolphins. We chose it as it was recommended by the excellent Bradt guide  and appeared to a good base. We had 4 nights which meant we enjoyed the dolphins, snorkelling and also you can walk across to one of the oldest Mosques in East Africa. The food is excellent (much better than the other walkable hotels). The service and team are excellent. The lounge and bar are a wonderful space with couches and shade. There's good WiFi in the bar and lounge (not in the room).

There were some poor reviews on TripAdvisor, I suspect these are because people have different expectations. This is a rustic lodge. There isn’t aircon or hot water but there are lovely rooms that all face the ocean and are a step away from a beautiful swim.  There are lots of insects but that’s how it should be… it’s wonderful but if you scream every time you see a beetle or cockroach then maybe it’s just not the place for you. It was just perfect for us!

The property is situated in a stunning location . It really is very beautiful. It’s also neat a fisherman’s village and it was lovely to walk along beach and also see the children play. The light was stunning and the sea the most beautiful colour. It really is a magical place to stay in nature. The food was delicious- a varied menu each day and it was tasty The staff were so friendly and helpful. They made the stay very pleasant - if there was a problem the manager did his best to sort! The bar man worked so hard but he always had a smile ! I would not hesitate to stay here again - a little bit of paradise

Very little - the situation was exquisite - very beautiful. The staff and food was wonderful . I suppose if I’m being picky the rooms could have done with a little more maintenance but I appreciate it is hard to keep on top of due to the remote location and the weather. I stayed twice in the property. The first time it was a standard room and the second it was upgraded! The upgrade was a far better room.

The place is breathtaking! Amazing views, a peaceful garden full of beautiful flowers, a large yoga platform and lovely decorations in the rooms. Guests have the privacy they need, but at the same time the lodge is not completely isolated from the village - a nice combination that I have not experienced anywhere else. The staff were exceptionally friendly and the small problem I had with the room was dealt with professionally and courteously. Food was amazing throughout. I warmly recommend this place!

The only thing I missed was espresso, as the machine seemed to be broken at the time of my visit. However, there was filter coffee in the morning which also served the purpose.

The view, the vegetation, the personal
