"Paradise!"

9.0

A hidden gem far from the maddening crowd. Lush, tropical setting with sandy palm-fringed beaches, the lure and lull of the Indian Ocean from sunrise to sunset. The perfect spot to relax and unwind with a book under a tree, poolside or sip a sundowner. Friendly staff. Service with a smile. Fabulous food. Seasonal fruit and freshly pressed juices for breakfast. Delicious, locally sourced seafood lunch and dinner options daily. I would go back in a heartbeat!

"Beautiful hotel, namely the bungalow rooms, lovely staff and a serene experience."

9.0

Really lovely staff, very helpful and accommodating. Beautiful views and lots of natural beauty and wildlife found at your doorstep. Quiet and peaceful area, private ambience.

Wi-Fi not so great in bungalow rooms, also hot water not working in bungalow rooms in absence of sun due to being solar powered.

Place was great , eco friendly , staff was above expectations ( Casious , Bashir, Mubarak ) , food was one of the best we had in zanzibar , very cozy place for honeymoon

Only hot shower was out of service during our stay , but the staff made another room available for our free access for hot showers

"some refreshments needed, to match the price tag"

9.0

the location was heaven, very beautiful. the hotel food was extremely tasty, even the cheapest soup from the menu was a spectacle. 2 menues: a fixed one and a daily one: 10+ the breakfast, extremely tasty and abundant the fruits were out of this world, the juices from the bar, very very good. the staff and the owner very careful and available 10+ they changed our room from the open concept to a more conventional one. Staff very punctual, contrary to the ‘pole pole’ saying. Clean

the open concept room was bad - for european standards - even if it looked exotic. we could’t sleep there - literally. there was a bug making noise, INSIDE the bed nightstand. i put that piece of furniture out because of the noise. (just choose a traditional room, closed) The room price- opposed to the standards, were quite european, high. i saw a big sized rat on the wall of the open shower. open style rooms allowed bugs to get in the room freely. towels, bed sheets and courtains were used and old-ish, considering the price payed for the room!!

"I really enjoyed staying at Karamba Lodge and I can recommend it to everyone who wants a relaxed and quite place away fr"

8.0

Karamba is a beautiful lodge away from the crowds directly located at the serene Kizimkazi beach. I loved to step out of our bamboo hut in the morning to see the sea right in front of us. The beach huts have comfortable beds, an open bathroom and a lovely sitting area right at the beach. Ours also has aircon, which was good to have in March. The common dining area has breathtaking views of the sea all day round and it’s a please to hang out there. The nearby village hosts the oldest mosque in East Africa and gives a good impression of the simple life of fishing community. Karamba lodge also hosts a lot of interesting artefacts from the region and has a little shop.

It’s good that there is a swimming pool as the tide does not allow swimming in the sea most of the day. The pool is ok, but too small for the size of the lodge. There are also no umbrellas or toilets near the pool and the berths are not comfortable enough for hanging out there and reading a book for a few hours. This needs improvement. We booked the expensive beach huts with A/c, which was a good choice. However, one gets better value for money in places like Goa or Thailand. The plus is that Zanzibar and Karamba are still more remote and I assume it costs much more to run a place like this in this part of the world.
