The house was very beautiful inside and quite spacious. It was clean, comfortable and well equipped. It’s a great value, especially for a bigger group.

The house is a bit distant from any restaurants and from the sights of Hakone. This is not necessarily a bad thing, it’s just something to note. If you have a car or the Hakone free pass, you will be fine (it is a 12ish minute walk to the Hakone-Yumoto station from where you can pick up all of the sightseeing trains and buses) I would just recommend doing all your sightseeing and eating your dinner before you come back for the night. There is a 7-Eleven close by if you need an ATM or snacks.

"A good location that is comfortable for 5 or 6 people, but I would hesitate for any more than that"

The vacation rental is located in a beautiful part of Hakone. The house itself is a decent-size and has two toilets, but be aware there is only one shower. The kitchen is supplied with pots/pans, plates and bowls, and utensils.

The pictures make all of the rooms appear larger than they really are. There were 4 of us during this trip, and while we didn't feel cramped, I certainly think the living room area would not be comfortable for more than 5 or 6 people. The pictures also show that there is a deck, but this is greatly overstated; the deck is simply a very small area on the side of the house. I urge you to really look at the picture of the room with the bunk beds to ensure you understand that this room will be very tight if you fill it up. And again, there is only one shower. I feel like this house could be more comfortable if it didn't try to offer a capacity of up to 12 people. Also, note that it is a 15+ minute walk from the nearest bus stop/train station up steep hills, so be aware.
