Beach People Hostel Bantayan Island

La struttura è stupenda, bellissimo design, molto curata e pulita, con una bellissima vista sulla spiaggia. A pochi minuti dal centro ma in una posizione tranquilla e silenziosa.

Love the hostel vibe. They got it right by having a really good common space. Good to pets. Good location, maybe 25-50 meters from the beach and a kilometer from town. Cold beer. Bar decently stocked. Food pretty good. Faucets right outside the room to wash feet. Paraw ride was awesome. Salamat Maki and Jojo.

The room was dark. Interior light not sufficient. Little things in disrepair. Our toilet seat was broken. The faucet was dripping. The water dispenser spout was broken. The towel rack was loose. There are beanbags and swings and a big hammock but none of the chairs were actually comfortable enough to sit for an extended period. Mildred was very helpful and informative. The bartender was all good vibes. But the rest of the staff would miss repeated requests. There would always be something forgotten. We don’t eat breakfast but they refused to give us free coffee instead. Partly get it but mostly don’t. We’re giving up a full meal and just asking for one cup of coffee - why is this not possible.

Las zonas comunes son muy pintorescas a nivel visual, pero en lo personal lo estético no compensa una experiencia de incomodidad total. La cama en habitación compartida me pareció carísima para el nivel de comodidad que ofrece. Menos mal que solo había reservado una noche, porque me fui al día siguiente. El alojamiento NO TIENE generador ni placas solares. Esto implica que no hay electricidad de 6:00 a 14:00, lo que se traduce en cero comodidades. No puedes dormir más allá de las 6:00am porque se corta el aire acondicionado y, con el calor y el tamaño reducido de la habitación, les aseguro que no se puede estar ahí dentro. Ya que obligatoriamente te despiertas a las 6:00, lo mínimo sería ofrecer el desayuno desde esa hora. Sin embargo, el desayuno supuestamente comenzaba a las 7:00… y ni siquiera fue así: a las 7:30 todavía no había nada. Es imprescindible tener un frontal o linterna, porque la habitación es totalmente oscura y durante el corte de luz no se ve absolutamente nada. Para lavarte los dientes tienes que usar un jarro con agua que dejan en un tanque fuera de la habitación. Si por la mañana necesitas usar el baño, recuerda llevarte ese mismo jarro antes de entrar, porque si no, no podrás tirar de la cadena. Todo esto compartiendo habitación con cinco personas o más. Si eres mujer, estás en tus días y usas copa, mejor ni pensarlo… Por este mismo motivo, tampoco hay wifi, así que tendrás que gastar tus propios datos móviles. No hay ducha de agua caliente en ningún momento del día. El personal, a mi llegada, fue forzadamente amable. Da la sensación de querer hacer pasar el lugar por un alojamiento de mayor nivel, algo que no encaja ni con el concepto de hostel ni con la realidad de un sitio que no tiene electricidad las 24 horas. El camino para llegar es muy malo En resumen: 17 € por una cama en estas condiciones, sumando el gasto extra en datos móviles y la incomodidad general, no lo justifican en absoluto.

Beach people is a beautiful hostel with activities, such friendly staff, and anything you could want. I saw someone talk about the lack of social atmosphere here, which is initially one of the reasons why i didn’t book, but in the end I made a bunch of friends here, all within my own room. It depends on your luck. Coming from my last hostel, I was initially just hoping that this one was clean and free of mold, but it was way more than that. The rooms are beautiful, they have an anti-wet clothes-and-towels in the room policy and racks outside the rooms, there is good ventilation, the beds are so comfortable, and there are lockers WITH LOCKS! Some places do not provide locks. Towels, despite needing to be ‘rented’ are actually free, and so is a lovely breakfast (eggs, toast, sausage), lemon water, and cookies. The common areas are open air and there are beautiful plants all around the hostel, and cute dogs. A criticism I saw of this hostel was that it’s far from the main area, which I’d like to say is completely untrue, it’s not right next to the main area, sure, but it’s like a 10-or-so minute bicycle ride to town (100 PHP to rent), and then only a tiny bit from there to Kota beach, a beautiful beach, so I’d say this hostel’s location is actually pretty great, and I’m actually quite lazy, so if I can do it, it’s definitely manageable. If you’re even lazier than me and also don’t want to spend money on either a bike or taxi, then there’s a private beach at the hostel, the waves were fine when I was there. I came here after a nightmare experience at another hostel on the island that looks to be at a similar standard to this one but has a mold problem of a toxic level of severity. I won’t name names but stay away from THAT hostel and come here instead, please trust me and you won't regret it.

The only real issue I faced was how long it took to get my laundry but it seemed to be completely out of their control (electricity cut off and my laundry got stuck), and I got my laundry in the end, so that is completely fine, just a warning for anyone to keep this in mind, this is an island, and sometimes the electricity goes off, so don’t depend on it, and don’t rely on it getting done within 24 hours. With that being said, though, I did specifically request only a tiny bit of fragrance on my laundry, and it came back as literally the strongest smelling laundry I’ve ever had, it smells lovely, but it’s just too much fragrance. I request this usually so that the clothes don't irritate my skin and body, so it would’ve been nice if there was less fragrance. For the future, I’d love if the hostel could provide a sheet of paper for those requesting laundry to note down any requests as well as denote how many items of each garment there are, I saw this at another hostel and thought it was a brilliant idea: 1. I ask to do laundry 2. Hostel provides a sheet of paper with all types clothing listed, then you write down how many numbers of each item you have (Shirts:6, pants:4, etc.), that way if you’re missing anything, you’ll know, the hostel will know, the laundromat will know 3. There’s also a section that asks for special requests where the guest can list any special request, in my case, I would write ‘no softener’ and ‘only a little bit of fragrance, etc. 4. That way, the hostel and the laundromat won’t forget considerations or mix up the clothes, it makes it easier for everybody and it’s super simple and cheap to do. :)

The Beach People Hostel has a very welcoming and relaxed atmosphere. The staff is friendly and helpful, and I felt safe and comfortable throughout my stay. The interior is modern with a tasteful beach-style design, and the large open common area offers many seating options, making it easy to socialize or just relax. Early check-in was possible, which was a nice bonus. The rooms are clean and modern, with air-conditioning that works very well and stays quiet at night. Medium-sized lockers are available in the dorms, and a lock with key is provided. The community kitchen with a free water refill station is practical, and the basic breakfast included (bread or rice with egg and juice) is a nice extra. The hostel is very close to a wide and beautiful beach, reachable within a short walk via a small path. Scooter parking, a kite-surfing school on-site, bike rentals, tours, and a private security guard at night all add to the overall positive experience.

The hostel is not directly on the beach, which might matter to some travelers, even though the access is very close. The breakfast is quite basic and limited in choice. In the dorm rooms, the sink is located inside the sleeping area, and only one shower and toilet are attached to the dorm, which can feel a bit inconvenient during busy times. Aside from these minor points, there were no major downsides, especially for travelers looking for a calm, social place to relax and unwind.
