Guest House Koundo

The host was lovely. He was very informative about the local area and gave us good advice on what to see and do.

Long Story short, my girlfriend and I booked here, arrived at 5.30pm (Within the 3-7pm check in range outlined on booking.com). I feel bad about giving this place a one star but I have to write a review in case it becomes a trend for others. We opened the door and we were met with an initially very confused and admittedly elderly Japanese man. He eventually established that he had no rooms available for us despite the fact that our booking was confirmed on the app. He gave us back the monies for booking the property there and then which was appreciated (Also indicating that it genuinely could have just been an honest mistake). The place seemed nice from the peek we got from looking inside but we were left stranded in Nikko trying to book something quickly again at a premium. The host did not offer any compensation to this effect but I didn't press him for it either so perhaps that's understandable but still far less than ideal. I hope others have a better experience but showing up to an accommodation that you're looking forward to and then having the rug torn from beneath your feet was a horrid odyssey to embark on at 6pm that night. We ended up having to walk 40mins on the highway in the pitch black of night with all our belongings to a more expensive but decent and welcoming (but poorly located) accommodation in the end. Note: I've never had something like this happen to me before using Booking.com so I felt the need to document it here, apologies for the lack of brevity for anyone reading

Everything, especially the duvet which is light and firm. The host is incredibly nice. He cleaned the snow from our car. We have been traveling around the world. Best place we ever stayed. Highly recommended.

A humble guest house with all the facilities you would need - no meals served but many restaurants very close. the host was very helpful assisting us oldies with luggage up the stairs. He also kindly cleaned the snow off the car in the morning!

Mr.Shuji is very nice and kind host. His property is very clean, cozy, and convenient to get a bus or walk to shops to buy something to eat. Toilet is clean and functional. Washroom is quite large with one bathtub. We got 2 bed rooms and 1 Japanese dinning room with Japanese style table that has a heater under it. Mr.Shuji always stays around a house, so don’t worry. He can communicate in English as well. We’re so happy to choose this place for staying a night in Nikko.
