Il Vecchio Torchio

A house with personality, which we liked very much and where we felt at home. Equipped with absolutely everything necessary for four people. Accessible only by private car or taxi to and from Varenna. (which have convenient prices). The host is very welcoming, responsive and provides lots of helpful information. I especially appreciated that everything was very clean.

The whole area is gorgeous, even to explore on foot. I just wouldn't recommend it to anyone in August, everything is overcrowded.  Definitely in extra season it's better and enjoyable!

Nice house in a small village on the side of a mountain, on walking distance to a beach on Lago di Como.

We have rest time at the house and wanna to return. Owner has written a lot of places which you can visit, I have appreciate it.

Beautiful mountainside village of Gittana. Need a car to get around. However, great hiking on Senterio trail and easy to walk up/down to lakeside swimming area.

Beautiful garden area. But not really comfortable to sit in. Simple parasol/table would make the garden a haven.

Our stay was perfect: The owner of the apartment is an extremely friendly person, always available for any questions and ready to help. The apartment is very clean and spacious, with plenty of storage cabinets, a beautiful garden (actually – 2 gardens), and a very well-equipped kitchen. Fair value for the price and excellent location! Note that it is better not to rely on public transportation in this area.

We stayed at the sister property of Il Vecchio Torchio - just across the street - but saw the inside of Il Vecchio Torchio and my review would apply equally to both properties. Anzhela was a wonderful host - extremely welcoming and helpful. The price is much more reasonable than the prices in Varenna itself. The property is spacious: two good-sized bedrooms with a living room/kitchen. The decor in the property was very stylish. Great beds and good-sized bathroom (slightly smaller I remember in Il Vecchio Torchio, but still nice). Free parking thirty yards along the street. Lake views. Restaurant in town supposed to be v good - though we didn't visit - and bar across the street run by Swedish ex-pat (speaks excellent English) which serves fantastic meat and cheese platters (children welcome). Quiet at night and cool (though it wasn't particularly hot when we visited Varenna anyway).

You'll need a car and road is narrow and steep from Varenna (though, if you're driving in that part of Italy, you'll be used to that). Otherwise, you'd have to get a taxi both ways.

This was such a quaint place to stay. It was located up the side of a mountain. Its about a 10 minute drive to Perledo. It is a very spacious 2 bedroom historical home. The host was so kind and explained everything to us. We enjoyed the coziness of the woodstove. We liked that she provided board games for the kids to play and snacks upon our arrival. This was a big deal for us because there are no grocery stores or restaurants within walking distance, and we needed snacks upon arrival. The beds were big and comfortable. We really enjoyed staying here and felt very much at home. We would love to stay here again.

If you want to stay here you MUST have a car. We thought we could just walk down the hill, but the roads are so narrow and treacherous and there is no sidewalk for pedestrians. There is a car rental place just down the mountain from this location. It is not on google though, so you must go there in person. We were able to get a rental car delivered to us from Lecco. Without this we would've been stuck.

It was a beautiful old Italian village a little further out of Varenna than we has thought. Taxis in Varenna were not easy to find on one occasion but we found a lovely taxi driver Rita who was totally reliable after that. Despite the transport issues we were glad to stay in such a lovely village with its views over the lake. The house was lovely and the help and welcome from the hostess was second to none
