ikkyu rental vacation house

The owners of this place were very friendly and they did their best to accommodate our requests for car pickup and provided us with vegetarian dinner boxes that they deliver to us themselves! Although his communication was often very confusing, because at the same time as he promised us a dinner box before we arrived, he also said that we should take care our own food from the convenience store (probably an automated message?). The place looks nice, with a kitchen and bar, a nice living space, plenty of options for heating and cooling (fans etc). The bathroom was pretty good.

His confusing/contradicting language was sometimes hard to understand. Also keep in mind that there is no store or restaurant nearby, and they normally don't provide breakfast etc. (even though they provided us with a dinner box upon request).

The location is very attractive - the middle of Japan country with wonderul views and a lot beatufil attractions around (car is needed). The house has its own rough climate which I personally enjoyed.

Although pretty in its own way, the house is not as pleasant as advertised. The living room and toilet are fine, but they are divided by concrete unrenovated "corridors" (including kitchen). There are also a lot of GIANT spiders and other bugs.

Authentic Japanese country home and nice location in nature

Could have used a bit more cleaning (spider webs especially), however the main problem were all the insects and spiders which got into the house and even sleeping areas because of gaps at the doors, so they can crawl in from the outside. We encountered a very large spider. So, if you‘re okay with that, it‘s probably a decent stay, but for us it wasn’t ideal.

Great host and great location to visit the hot springs close by!
