The Chestnut Horse

Lovely location & building. Beautiful bar. As advised stairs to rooms very tricky. Beautiful room but bed very high to climb onto and coir flooring uncomfortable to walk on barefoot . Bathroom v accessible. “Free” breakfast: hot drink & a pastry

Gastvrijheid Bij aankomst van chestnut horse was het hotel compleet vol. De eigenaar had ons getracht te bellen. Maar had ons niet kunnen bereiken. Hij vond het zo vreselijk en bood ons aan om op zijn kosten de dineren Geweldige keuken ! Ik had graag willen blijven slapen. Dat moet zonder twijfel ook goed zijn geweest. The bar areas were lovely. especially sunny courtyard and tables to front of the pub. Beer excellent, wine also. Room was spacious with superb comfortable bed.

Nit -picking but shower had a faulty handle...it came off and hard to stop the water flow! Water did not drain well from shower risking flood and water would not drain readily from sink. Main criticism was food.Chicken dish two unsubtle slabs of chicken with a plateful of stodgy pasta; crab dish pleasant but £29 for a pile of pasta flavoured with a spoonful of crab??

Staff were very friendly and helpful, communication before the stay was great. It is a beautiful old pub, the room was excellent and very well appointed.
