for the price i paid, i thought breakfast was included, we did get a pastry and coffee but a more versatile menu would have been appreciated

we were in room 2, and it was very dark. i know it's an old building but the main light needs to be much brighter

Lovely food and bed

The room was really small, en-suite was tiny

A charming 17th Century Inn with lots of character. The staff were all very friendly. We were welcomed by the lovely Evie who checked us in. We hadn’t made a reservation for the evening meal and although they were fully booked for Steak night, Evie said it wouldn’t be any trouble fitting us in. The steak night was very popular with the locals and we could see why. The meal was delicious! The restaurant staff were excellent. A big shout out to Mark, Lydia, Daisy, Alice and Chloe who worked very hard as it was very busy. Everything was perfect and it was very good value. After our delicious meal we went to the bar for a nightcap. We met a couple who lived locally and had a nice chat with them. All very friendly. The room we stayed in was lovely (room 4). Very quirky, very comfortable bed. There is complimentary coffee and a pastry available in the morning. The surrounding area is very scenic. Lots of lovely thatched cottages. We took a walk up to the big house and the views from the road were well worth it. We stayed at the Chestnut Horse one night before our cruise from Southampton the next day. Perfect location as it only took about 30mins to get to the dock. We would definitely stay here again.

There is only a small issue with the way up to the bedrooms. The steps are quite steep and enclosed. There is one very large step at the bottom which could possibly be difficult for more senior guests. The staff were very happy to help with luggage if required.

Beautiful, historical property that has been considerately decorated. Very helpful staff and lovely area.

For the price, I would expect a few more amenities in the room or the inclusion of breakfast. No restaurant bookings were reserved for guests.

Loved the country feeling

The bedroom and bed well appointed only let down by lack of lock on bathroom door and access. The public areas were very spacious and comfortable. The location with easy access to Winchester but pleasantly rural - lots of footpaths was ideal.

The access to room was challenging, steep narrow staircase, high rise steps , two turns and not for physically impaired or nervous; very rural ! The bathroom/ toilet was not thoroughly cleaned. Though advertised on Booking.com as providing a full breakfast the pub does not. Though offered a coffee and sweet pastry, selection was extremely limited, sparse and unpalatable, no croissant or toast even.though both easy to prepare/ offer... so very disappointing when breakfsst a very important meal when travelling and on holiday.
