Mbah Mek Trawangan Homestay

We specifically looked for a budget stay in Gili T and this was perfect. It was a nice homestay with lovely local family. We booked 2 rooms for 3 nights for our family of 5. The rooms are very basic but you get what you pay for. It was a good distance from the port and main busy area but quiet enough for a family to get a good nights rest. We give 10 for this as it was a really good value for money and we hope more travellers stay with local families. We stayed out most of the days every day on the beach and exploring the island on bicycles.

For this money we cannot fault anything. Just dont expect anything fancy from this place.

The location is awesome, only 7-8 minute walk to the beach. The owner is very kind and assisted me when I needed help or information. The room is very clean, the air conditioning felt amazing on the hot days.

The property isn’t fancy, but it is safe, clean and an affordable place to stay. if you are looking for fancy this isn’t for you.

Easy check-in. Location good, only few minutes walk from the beach / port. Liked the tap outside porch, to wash off sand before entering the room. Very thoughtfull. Liked the sweeep and dustpan in the room. We liked the hosts, they were kind and friendly. Room size was ok. Room and bed linen were clean. We liked that we could hang our clothes in different places. Mattress was very comfy. Towels were new. AC was strong, cooling, working fine. We liked the kind of privacy at the porch. We liked that the host was keeping an eye on the property at all times, felt secure, no non-residents could have entered without the host noticing. No insects in the room. Overall good value. Suited for 3 nights stay.

None of these were a problem for us, but worth mentioning for your information. Place has not much natural light. Wifi did not work during our 3 night stay. But we had mobile internet anyways. Mosques were pretty loud, but it is the case on almost all locations in Gili.

The most charming, kind, obliging hosts. Good location a short walk away from the main tourist area. Clean, comfortable room. Good air con and use of facilities. Great value for money on Gili. Highly recommended.

Not the hosts fault but the mosques will wake you at 4:30 and the Cockerells at 6:00. Although this apartment is further from the mosques than most. Something you just have to tolerate. Wifi not working when I stayed and no hot water to shower, but this didn't stop me booking an additional 3 nights.

I gave this place a chance as it only had two reviews and it paid off! The hosts are two really sweet older people, both were very attentive to making sure I liked the room and always checked with me (by my name every time) if I looked lost. The room and entry is spotless, air-conditioning is good, bed is comfortable and clean, the bathroom has hot water, toilet flushes well, good location, close to the main markets, breakfast was served at a cheap rate (I don't eat breakfast but it looked good). The bathroom door consisted of plastic sheeting similar to that in an open fridge, this kept the room cool and mosquitos out. The place felt quiet and safe all the time and when I return to Gili T, I will return here.

Nothing but for those that are fussy I'll give you a little warning: The immediate surrounding area is a little bit poorer than the rest of the more expensive hotels, don't let it put you off. There is no soap or shower gel, most travellers bring their own (I always do anyway). The towel was big and clean. Depending on the day/night there may be religious events on, that are noisy and disturb your sleep at about 4/5am but this area has many other hotels and hostels that cost way more and you will be faced with the same problem. The pictures on on booking look a little different but it's possible the room is got was just different. The quality was similar. The room doesn't have a lot of light, even with the curtains opened, but you can always turn the light on...
