Gem in Papanui Christchurch

Great spacious home, a home away from home.

A bit. We could not use the internal access garage due to the neighbours parking in the driveway blocked off the entrance. Assuming it was fine, we did the same and got told off for it. Fine, I understand in some ways as it is their day to day activity and work etc however when you’re given a set of rules to adhere by in terms of noise, we adhered but I cannot say the same for the neighbours. They had people in and out and out talking laughing etc very loudly on and off until 2.00 / 3.00AM. It made it difficult to wind down after our days out. We were offered tea/coffee but I don’t know when all the items were checked because the hot chocolate powder canister was as hard as a rock, which made me go on a hunt for what else was low or off. There was no dishwashing liquid the bottle was empty and only one capsule to use in the dishwasher (which we did in one bulk on our last day), the body wash in the main bedroom was also low, had to open the top to tap some out to use some. The room fresheners were all dry (not a big deal but using it as an example photo too because, unfortunately I can’t load videos but do have some pictures loaded). The complimentary continental breakfast… it’s corn flakes and a loaf of bread which… by the time I had seen the hot chocolate situation, I wasn’t comfortable consuming anything else. There was no butter or jams / spreads… so I feel a little jipped when it comes to advertising “breakfast included” and when asked was told it was complimentary continental breakfast. My understanding is that covers a variety of things and not just half of the bare minimums especially with what we paid for it.

It would have been good to have casserole dishes in the kitchen cupboards . It would have been good to know that the garage only accommodated small vehicles when booking.

This was an awesome brand-new unit to stay in for multiple days. It had everything you could need for a long-term stay, including a washing machine and dryer, coffee maker, and streaming services. It is ideally located on a quiet side street, but just mins away from the Northlands Mall. There is an attached garage, and also street parking outside. We really appreciated the bowl of mixed fruit and breakfast fixings to get us started.

The upstairs rooms experienced occasional 'shaking' from passing traffic. Initially we thought it was caused by the wind, but it still happened on calm days, and the only thing we could put it down to was traffic out on the main road that was somehow causing the unit to shake.

Our stay at the Gem in Papanui was excellent. The home was well set up and had everything you could possibly need. They even provided breakfast provisions and fruit which was fantastic. The shopping centre is only a few minutes down the road and the drive in to Christchurch and all the major attractions are very close. I would highly recommend staying here
