Quinta São Gonçalo

The house is on the top of a hill and you can see Funchal from your room windows. We ate our breakfast outside in the garden overlooking the city. The room looked like it was recently renovated and it was very clean. The parking was a great advantage since the streets were not really spacious and were hilly. The check in and check out process was easy and straightforward (there was an option to self check in).

Csodálatosan éreztük magunkat! A helyszín tökéletes – egy nagyon csendes és nyugodt környéken található, ami ideális a kikapcsolódáshoz, autóval vagy busszal kb. 10 perc a városközpont. A szállásról nyíló panoráma a városra reggel és este is gyönyörű. A reggeli finom volt és bőséges. Nagyon tetszett a self check-in folyamata, rendkívül egyszerű volt, egyértelműek voltak a lépések. Emellett a vendéglátók egy teljes körű útmutatót is adtak kiváló program- és étteremajánlókkal. Szívből ajánlom! A személyzet is nagyon kedves volt, mosolygósak, bármi kérdés felmerült nyitottak és segítőkészek voltak.

This is a super property and a delightful place to stay for the authentic Madeira. We were delighted to be well away from the 'green line' strip of hotels to the west of the city. Large rooms and beds, where the only shortfall is the use of a shower curtain with the bath, rather than a modern glass screen. All staff were super-friendly and there is the added bonus of being able to use the kitchen for drinks, microwave and fridge. The grounds were super and the instructions for arrival with entry codes were simple (there was even a video to show you how to do it). It is an easy walk into town but the hill is a bit of a haul back. However, we made use of the bus service to go down and up. The 2 stops that can be used are very close to the Quinta.

The breakfast was generally excellent but the cheese/charcuterie was primarily the packet variety. It was similar with the jams where packets were used and they were very poor. It is such a high standard property that its is a pity that these minor defects were notable e.g. it would be very easy to provide a couple of authentic jams and honey, with packets as a back up if guests do not like them

The quinta is not far from Funchal and restaurants, peaceful and with nice views. The staff is very friendly and responsive by whatsapp. Everything is clean. The beds are so good. Free parking. Breakfast is not extensive, but there is all you need.

The sunbeds were not well maintained, the cushions were often wet from the rain (and the storage for the cushions was broke). That was the only dissapointment.
