The hosts were so kind and the welcome coffee they serve is the best of the region. The house is very clean despite of the 180 years of history. Also, the hosts gave us a half hour explanation to the beautiful house and the surrounding area in details. We felt so heartfelt. Definitely recommend anyone who wish to have a Japanese house for their trip.

Very beautiful Hotel. The amenities are all high quality and good design. Everything is thought through. It's a truly luxurious experience. The host is very nice and made great effort.

In the shopping arcade where this Hotel is located, loud music is playing from 9:30 AM to 8 PM :( It's very annoying and distracting because you can hear it in the room. The garden wasn't maintained well, the moss was mostly dried out.

Expensive, but worth it. Special place to stay overnight. The place is beautiful and the dinner in the restaurant was delicious and personal.

The furnishings and interior design were tasteful, high-and and very elegant.

Because the house was situated along a shopping arcade, the light from the street as well as the sounds from pedestrians affected the quality of sleep.

Thank you to all at the Hotel Mio in Shimabara — we had a wonderful stay. We were accommodated in a lovely set of rooms in an old house overlooking a garden, tastefully decorated with very comfortable beds and an immaculate bathroom. The staff were helpful and welcoming, and the breakfast was terrific. The hotel backs on one side onto a pleasant old-fashioned covered shopping arcade, and has a booking arrangement with the restaurant Madoko just across the way: if you can get a reservation, take it, because it's excellent. The surrounding area is attractive and interesting, with canals, the carp rills, and the castle just up the hill.
