"Lovely cottage but a challenging hill and steep narrow stairs"

8.0

Very comfortable and a lovely back yard area

The stairs are very narrow and difficult to descend as l only have one arm. Steep hill to ascend from town

"Avoid Unless You're Comfortable Chasing Your Own Money"

1.0

We stayed at this property for a weekend in May. Unfortunately, the experience was disappointing from the outset. When booking, we were advised that check-in information would be sent to us before arrival. However, no information was received and we had to contact the property ourselves. We were then informed that check-in details would not be released until we paid either a £400 refundable damage deposit or a £100 non-refundable damage waiver. While I understand the purpose of damage deposits, a £400 deposit is a significant amount of money and this requirement was not made clear when we originally made the booking. Booking.com's terms for the property stated a £200 refundable damage deposit, so being asked for £400 came as a surprise. We paid the deposit by bank transfer as requested and were advised that it would be returned within 14 days of departure. The property itself was adequate for our stay, but it was tired in places and in need of some maintenance. There were scuffs and marks on walls and doors, unfinished filler repairs, and the bathroom was not as clean as expected, with soap residue on the shower head and hairs left in the bath. The location is good, although it is situated on a steep hill which may not be suitable for guests with mobility issues. Parking is available for one vehicle on a narrow road outside the property. The real issue began after checkout. We left the property in good condition, checked out on time, and heard nothing further from the host regarding any damage or issues. The £400 deposit left my account immediately on 8 May. We checked out on 10 May and were told the refund would be returned within 14 days. By 28 May, no refund had been received. From that point onwards, I repeatedly contacted the host requesting an update. On each occasion I was told that they were waiting for an update from a co-host and that there was nothing further they could do. I received the same response over and over again for weeks.

"Beautiful cottage. Work needed on check-in process"

5.0

Beautiful cottage in a great location.

I had read reviews about problems getting in but unfortunately did not take enough notice of them. I had been asked to input details for a ‘digital passport’ before arrival, which I did. On arrival I was not provided with the access code to get the keys. I was outside in a heatwave with 2 young children. I was told I needed to pay a non-refundable deposit which I believe is totally against booking.com rules as all payments should be upfront. I was left with no choice (having to download PayPal as I have never had it and they wouldn’t take a bank transfer. This was all over message as they wouldn’t answer the phone). We had to throw away our shopping as we were outside for over an hour in extreme heat. It really set our trip off on a low note and I would never stay again.

Bakewell is a lovely country small town surrounded by lush gentle hills and the cottage reminds one of the olde hovis ads, very nice

"Terrible agent"

1.0

Clean and comfortable cottage

The agent who manages the property are not good. Contacted a few hours before arrival to pay a £200 damage deposit. Would not release keys untill proof of payment received. When you are walking with no phone reception its not easy. Then i had an awful job trying to get the deposit back. Parking at the cottage is an issue. Only one permit. So if you have 2 cars its very hard to find any parking. The stairs in the property are fine if you are a mountain goat.

"Don’t book unless you want to lose £200 deposit"

1.0

The property is nice

The host takes a deposit and then doesn’t repay it in spite of the property being left in perfect condition. I have chased several times and they have said they will pay but don’t.

"Good"

1.0

Do not be fooled by this charming looking property, i booked to stay, paid the amount in full on a non refundable rate, and then paid the additional security deposit of £200 which says it will be automatically refunded after vacating, however 4 weeks on i am still waiting for my refund. I have sent repeated messages requesting the refund and repeatedly fobbed off being told that it the deposits are dealt with by the 'co host' and this was being chased with no avail, and now I am being ghosted. So, on top of paying the cost to stay at the property, I have lost an additional £200. This host does not comply with they're own rules and disclaimers and is defrauding innocent people out of more money for their own gain. Absolutely disgusting!! Do not book this place unless you want to be conned out of an additional £200.

"Exceptionally well-equipped cottage for stays of any length"

10.0

This was a wonderful holiday home, with everything you could need: a spacious living room with a television and a large couch and fireplace (as well as plenty of books to read), a fully-stocked kitchen with a dishwasher as well as a washing machine and dryer, and a very modern, well-equipped bathroom with a bathtub shower and a hairdryer. There was even a nice, cozy little garden at the back with a table and chairs. There was a parking permit provided that allowed us to park right in front of the door. The bed in the master bedroom was king-sized, plush, and super comfortable. The home was in a nice neighborhood and only a five-minute walk into town.

The stairs leading up to the bedrooms were very steep, which could be a problem for people with walking difficulties.

"Fabulous stay just wish access had been smoother"

9.0

The location was fabulous and it was just the right size for what we needed for a short stay. Would love to stay again

The only down side we found was trying to access the property. The communication was difficult and it took me over an hour of back and forth to actually access the property communicating with property company who were slow and not overly helpful.
