The location is a short walk away from a few pubs, a sweet cat café and a decent Thai takeaway place! It's also fairly close to the Plantation Garden (very worth) and the Cathedral of St John if one is interested. Do note that because it is near a pub it can get slightly noisy even later in the day. I came slightly earlier than the usual check-in time and Martin was quick to respond on WhatsApp to allow me to enter the property. I got the ground floor room right in the front of the house which was decorated fine. It's like university accommodation but with a large bed, so expect that level of cleanliness and dated-ness. The bed was sufficient for a night's rest. I did not use the kitchen or living room in the basement, and so cannot comment on those.

The house isn't the most modern or well-maintained - the front yard is slightly unkempt and the carpet has some stains (although they're not smelly or gross). The soundproofing is not the best, so you can hear other guests on the floors above you. Since my room was the room right next to the front door, I could also hear everyone who walked up to the door as well as people entering/exiting, and people could look into my room. (As such, this room is not for those who are paranoid about sounds in the night!) The shared bathroom also has some people's things in it - not sure whose they were, but I left them alone. The cleanliness is to be expected of a shared bathroom. The owners give you a towel which is nice. I'm not sure if this property is suitable for solo female travellers, since the neighbourhood that the property is in is very residential.
