- Michelle is a very friendly and approachable host who always has time to help her guests and no ask is too big. She is also very friendly and chatty and cooks some of the best food I’ve had in the Philippines! You can also tell from reading previous reviews that she is paying attention to people’s comments and rectifying them, for example fitting outlets in the rooms and a western style toilet. She really made the stay the amazing experience it was. - The amazing views are breath-taking and worth the journey to get there. - Excellent value for money.

- It is a long walk (20-30 mins down a steep hill and many steps) from where the transport drops you off to the stay which isn’t mentioned in the listing, however the host mentioned booking.com won’t let her change the description to include this, so not her fault. - Not a negative per se but take more cash than you think or make sure you have G Cash working. Allow 1000 pesos per person per day if taking cash plus 1000 for transport each way from Banaue if using tricycle as this is the standard fare. - It’s well worth the travel just make sure you’re prepared in advance!

Batad is definitely worth visiting, and this is a great place to stay thanks to its location close to the vehicle drop-off point and the beautiful views over the rice fields. The family running the place is very kind and caring, and they do their best to accommodate guests’ requests. It’s important to keep in mind where you are and how limited resources are in the area, so it’s not a place to be overly demanding. The shower was surprisingly hot. The rooms have Western-style bathrooms (with toilet paper), and everything looked and smelled clean, including the bed sheets and towel. In my case, breakfast was included in the price, but it consisted of two pancakes with jam. If you want something more substantial, you can order à la carte. Michelle cooks very well, and it’s absolutely worth having your meals there. It’s best to order in advance, as during busier times it can take a while for food to be prepared. Wi-Fi vouchers are available for 10 PHP (valid for three hours) and worked well. You can refill bottles with their spring water or buy bottled water on site. They can arrange transport + tour guides for you, if needed. Overall, the value for money felt very good.

In my case, the accommodation was overbooked, and I was asked to stay in the Native House instead of the private room I had booked. I agreed, which was fine as a unique experience, but it was less comfortable. A fire was started around 5 a.m. near the cabin, and the smoke came inside and woke me up. The space isn’t fully enclosed, so sounds also carry through.

It was lovely. I'm glad we stayed 3nights. It was a difficult journey due to the road conditions of up and down and sometimes the steps are too high and narrow next to the ravines. But we are all glad we made this trip us we are all in our 70s. Our ages are 76, 2 72, 1 71, 45 n 41. We older were helped by our younger companions and the people that. brought our stuff. But it was a wonderful trip. Inspite of the difficulties. The woman running the place was very accommodating. She's excellent.
